I highly, highly encourage anyone with a sleep problem to see a reputable "sleep doctor" asap.

It is miserable to toss and turn, and I know from first hand experience.

Do not delay in getting your sleep issues checked out by a professional!

I figured you switched to an afternoon / evening shift. Yours starts / ends an hour later than a similar schedule I kept up many years ago. Absolutely the best time of day to pattern everything else around for health and happiness. Unless stuff like school age children are in the picture. Then it can be the absolute worst for happiness.

I take 1 Unisom pill every single night. I have for the last 7yrs. I sleep 8hrs/night. It says non-habit forming, but I can always tell the next morning if I forgot to take it. For me it's been more about routine than anything else. In bed by 10:30pm, wind down, phone and lights off by 11pm. Alarm goes off at 7am. If I deviate from that routine, or am traveling, my sleep goes to ****. My bedroom also needs to be ice cold and dark.

Mid 30s, no kids, was engaged but now living the glorious bachelor life.

I just could not get to bed early enough having to get up so early to go in. Id nap in the afternoons when I could, but when you shortchange your body on sleep so much it becomes impossible almost. Insomnia is what I had I guess. Definitely lead to me getting irritable, and of course I worked out in the afternoons so you are already a bit jacked up which makes it hard to sleep and also makes you more easily fired up.

I look back now and dont know how the hell I did it for so long.

Yes, it sucks being at work when Reds or Cats are playing in the evening, but we're allowed headphones so I can always listen to the call.

Midday workout, post dinner sex and a couple of adult beverages usually result in eight glorious hours of sleep for me.

I require “dad time”, which I cannot acquire until everyone else in the house is asleep.
