Would be interesting if a number of NFL/MLB/NBA owners started their own relegation style soccer league w/o salary caps. Would that ever cause MLS to **** their collective pants.

They have been saying that for about 50 years now . . . Still waiting
Don't think there's any other sport that's close in growth in number of pro teams and attendance than soccer in USA in last 20 years. There weren't even any soccer specific stadiums 20 years ago and now they're all over. Adding new franchises L&R.

For transparency, I watch more soccer than any other sport. Hoops are about off my list totally.

And the metric system...
Medical system is entirely metric. Beverage containers nearly so. Autos are more & more metric.

Now 2 x 4's will never change. Nor mileage. Interestingly to me, Germany uses US piping dimensions such as 2". Of course we use the duodecimal system for selling eggs.

Spectator sports are hurting for fans. Younger generation typically doesn't attend games or watch on TV. A sport with almost as little action as baseball, and, no, I don't consider playing keep away with the ball 'action', is gonna have a hard time catching the NFL, CFB, CBB. True, it's huge worldwide but not so much here.

With overall viewership and fandom waning, can't see soccer being a major player in the US. Personally, hockey >>>>>> soccer.

I went to Chelsea and Arsenal last night at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. 63k sellout. Atmosphere was amazing. These were not fairweather or casual fans. Everyone in jerseys, singing songs, etc. Unfortunately Chelsea got stomped 4-0 but a great time nonetheless.

Same thing with the metric system. There are things I like about watching soccer but I can't make myself care enough to learn why they add extra time to the game and I think it is sort of bush league.
Maybe this is bait, but I'll tell you anyway.

The extra time is for unnatural stoppages in play - injuries, foul carding, substitutions. Amount is refs judgment. They stop their timer for these things then tell the sideline ref how much it is. They usually don't end a half while a team is strongly attacking the other team's goal, but wait till it's broken up. Without this, a team can just stall the game away.

So you are claiming the city cleared $10 million? You got the stat line for that ?
Nope. Just what the announcers said. Mainly due to out of town fans. Actually, it was added revenue to businesses vs. going in city pockets.

So in reality the $10 million clear is just a made up number. I got it now 🍺

At least soccer has collisions every now and then. Golf on the other hand is boring as crap.
I always tune in for a bunch of 5’6” 147 lb dudes just blasting their opponent like a crack back shot or a slant blow up 😂 🍺
Golf, agree. That’s beer drinking game 🍺

My eyes glazed over four words in. Could not care less.

In 10 years it will be in AMERICA as well.

Sheeit.. been hearing this from Soccer fans for 30 years now.

My one little brother plays soccer, but he also plays Hockey and Lax, and I think he's about to stick with lacrosse. My other little brother is now exclusively playing baseball, gave up Soccer at age 7. And my family is from a VERY big soccer town in NY (along with those other sports as well).

We shall see... If we want to talk about growing sports, basketball is on fire in many other continents... and sports like Lacrosse are picking up steam.

I mean it isn’t great action but it’s better than golf. My God. In just don’t get what some people see in it. I understand playing it can be relaxing I suppose. But watching it? Outside of say the Masters? No thanks.

Weird that 2 former British territories don't care about it as much as the rest of the world in terms of spectators.

The US - football is king
Australia- Rugby is king.
