Honestly, I'd like to see a Davis Francis Grant Buchanan and Dortch starting lineup.

You want to remove EO, who, and God I can't believe I'm saying this, may be the most valuable player on the team? Best rebounder by far, has a higher asst % than Grant, a higher steal % than Grant, higher block % than Grant (I use Grant because everyone says hes the best player), the only big defender we have, and is high efficiency on his low usage offensively.
Now, I could see, and while I prefer Francis off bench for offense, Francis, Buchanan, Grant, Dortch, and EO.

I prefer the opposite. Gotta find a way to score. I don’t see what Buchanan can bring on that end.

Based on how this team has performed I would want to see more of Ogbole, Grant and Zrno, about the same of Francis and Davis, and a little less of Badalau. Nwuli, Ware, Powers and Mark aren’t ready, but we still might need Ware’s size at center.

The four American freshmen have underperformed and should get playing time to get up to speed when the game is not on the line. Collectively Ware, Mark, Powers, Nwuli have as a group played 154 minutes, shot 7 of 34 overall (21%), 1 of 11 from 3 (9%), 9 pf 14 from the line (64%), with only 16 rebounds, 7 assists, 10 turnovers, 4 steals and 3 blocks for an initial grade of F. This is the group that most needs to improve and is also the group most likely to improve.

The next most disappointing person is Fall who I give a D- because he had 10 rebounds in 26 very awkward minutes. I hope I’m wrong, but see little chance of him becoming a contributor this season.

The two European freshmen also need to improve, but having played professionally in Europe they have less of a deer in the headlights approach to the game. They played 213 minutes shot 23-71 (32%), 16 of 45 from 3 (36%), but have only 23 rebounds, 10 assists, 13 turnovers, 6 steals and 3 blocks. The poor overall shooting, low rebounds and more turnovers than assists give them an overall grade of C-. As freshmen though it is reasonable to expect improvement as the season goes on.

The two transfers that should play Francis and Buchanan have together done a reasonably good job. They have played a combined 282 minutes, shot 46 of 99 (46%), 22 of 37 from 3 (32%) and 30 of 40 from the line (75%) with Buchanan bringing up the overall shooting and Francis bringing up 3 point and foul shooting. They have 39 rebounds, 29 assists to only 15 turnovers, 7 steals and 1 blocks. I would give them a B.

The four returning players Grant, Davis, Ogbole, and Dortch have looked pretty good, but none of them has shown they can dominate. They have played 525 minutes, shot 67 of 131 (51%), 9 of 19 from 3 (47%), 46 of 58 from the line (79%), have 123 rebounds, 23 assists and 25 turnovers, 12 steals and 16 blocks. Grant isn’t passing particularly well and Ogbole, Grant and Dortch turn the ball over way too often. Still, this group is by far the most efficient scoring group, Overall I would give this group a B+.

This team has earned their drop in Kenpom down to 132. However I expect that rating to improve if Rutgers freshmen improve during the season. If Pikiel is to have any chance to be successful, he needs enough NIL and revenue sharing to keep a core group at Rutgers (larger than 4 returnees).

I get the breakdown, but grading the freshmen an F doesn’t make sense when they are not playing enough to influence wins or losses. Ware, Mark, Powers, and Nwuli are getting scattered minutes, and you cannot judge their counting stats against players who are on the floor three or four times as much.

The returners you graded as a B+ (Grant, Davis, Ogbole, and Dortch) are the ones playing the heavy minutes, and they are the group on the court during the stretches where the team has been getting blown out. Their counting stats look better simply because they have the opportunity to accumulate them, but they are also the players driving the actual results.

after that it's hot hand for me. badalau and zrno have both flashed...if one is shooting it well then give them time...

According to the Evan Miya site the top 6 players with the best Off/Def efficiency the important Ken Pom/Torvik numbers for individuals is...

1) Bryce Dortch(131 poss) 109.8 83.7 +26.1 (+/- +37)
2) Kaden Powers(33 poss) 99.2 90.1 +9.1 (+/- +2)
3) JMike Davis(296 poss) 107.3 99.4 +8.9 (+/- +52)
4) Dylan Grant(252 poss) 109.0 103.1 +5.9 (+/- +32)
5) Denis Badalau(240 poss) 106.9 101.4 +5.5 (+/- +36)
6) Tariq Francis(282 poss) 106.0 101.6 +5.4 (+/- +35)

7th Buchanan(190 poss) 108.7 114.3 -5.6 (-8)
8th Lino Mark(85 poss) 98.7 107.2 -8.5 (-8)
9th Ogbole(192 poss) 101.9 111.6 -9.7 (+2)
A starter with only +2 thru 6 GM while the other 4 +52, +36, +35, +32

The rest are double digits negative bad, Fall.42 poss -13.5(-6), Zrno 110 poss -15.1(-17), Nwuli 102 poss -20.1(-19), Ware 32 poss -29.7(-13)

This is how you drop 50 spots in Ken Pom and Torvik and these numbers are against the cupcakes with Tennessee.

Ogbole is not playing well defensively is at the bottom of the team with Nwuli with the worst Bayesian Performance Rating.(The BPR system evaluates various aspects of a player's performance, such as scoring, defense, assists, and rebounds. It then combines these metrics to produce a single rating that reflects the player's overall impact on the game. This rating is adjusted for the strength of the opponents and the context of the games played.)

Kaden Powers needs to be the.3rd guard, Mark 4th, Bryce Dortch more minutes or starter at the 5 with Grant/Badalau or Grant/Buchanan, have the other come in after the first timeout and Ogbole back up Dortch.

I don’t expect Nwuli, Mark, Powers, and Ware to keep playing at the level they are playing at, but I’m really focusing in on the quality of what they have done while playing.

In 20 minutes, Powers is 0-8 from the field, 0-3 from 3 and 4-4 from the line, with 1 assist and 1 turnover.

In 52 minutes, Mark is 4-17 from the field, 0-7, from 3 and 3-4 from the line, with 1 assist and 2 turnovers.

In 64 minutes, Nwuli is 2-8 from the field, 1-1 from 3, 2-4 from the line and has only 7 rebounds.

In 18 minutes, Ware is 1-1 from the field, 0-2 from the line and has 0 rebounds.

They have provided short bursts of energy when they have come in as a group, but putting up these kinds of numbers hurts the team right now. In the long run, they have talent and are likely to be good when they adjust to the college game.

I’m not sure how Kaden Powers can be ranked as the 2nd best offensive/defensive player on the team. Any system that lists him as the 2nd best player has to be horribly flawed or possibly you misread it. Down the road, he may very well be a very good player, but when he comes into games he consistently shoots and misses. In 24 minutes he has taken 11 shots (6 from 3) and missed them all. I’m sure he is a much better shooter than that, but going 0-11 can’t possibly be helping the team.

33 mins total pt. It’s a pretty meaningless stat at the moment.

Very interesting numbers. For Powers, the sample size is too small. Get him more minutes but he’s also taking bad shots on offense. My guess is that will drop with more minutes.

Powers has taken some bad shots, but the reality is that he’s been off and is missing shots he is fully capable of making. Probably part of the stress of being a freshman.
