There will be increased pressure on good teams to take it easy on the dog crap like Bama did Cincinnati that one year. That's probably what this 24 team thing is, make it longer so the good teams have to sleepwalk through the dog crap to save it up for the biggies.

24 works in FCS. The 17 seed almost won a title
8 won last year and 10 reached the final this year
24 includes all conference winners...its absolutely how it should be done...as I've said for years.
Everyone wins...especially fans currently watching meaningless bowl games.

Yes lets continue to make more games irrelevant. The only good thing about expanding is that conference championship games are most likely gone. They're the most meaningless, out of place piece right now.

The real problem is that there's no way to tell how one conference compares to another because they won't play cross-over games. They don't have to. So you don't find out how average the SEC is until they play in bowl and playoff games.

24 teams -- The 10 conference champions and then the next best 14, regardless of conference affiliation. None of this 'certain conference gets x amount of bids'. Oh, you don't want to invite everyone and keep it exclusive? Then keep it at what it is now and live with it.

It makes more games relevant not less. The big games lose some importance/significance because of seeding but so many more games matter with an expanded playoff.

We agree on the CCGs...just end them.

How about a 12 game schedule with 9 conference games plus a game against a team from each of the other 3 p4 conferences. No conference championship and a seeded 16 team playoff.

Agreed with you until the last sentence. The current format remains flawed but 100% sold on your 24 team format

Not that anyone cares - certainly not the folks at the helm of this Titanic:

With the expanded playoffs, "college" student athletes are looking at about 1 month/6 weeks (depending on their particular school's schedule) between the end of the post-season, and the start of "spring" practices.

Even professional leagues :) , in every sport, have MUCH more downtime than that.


[EDIT: Just took a look at when IU started spring practice last year: Ran from March 8 through April 19. Miami started a week earlier (March 3).
So, at that schedule they are looking at 5-6 weeks from one season ending and the next beginning. Expanded playoffs would trim that down to roughly 1 month - maybe less.
That is, obviously, not sustainable.]

It works in FCS--why is it a problem in FBS? When they eliminate CCGs it's the same number of games as anyone is playing now. The season will still end at the same time--many believe it will be earlier.
Also, I have no idea why you think the ship is sinking--see the ratings and attendance.

I just don't get it. They will likely still exclude the Champions of the Group 5 leagues and they will have the 8th place B1G and SEC teams playing They don't deserve to be in the playoffs. You will get Missouri and Tennessee in along with Illinois and Minnesota.

All the changes are making CFB a less desirable product for me.

Irrespective of the number of teams in the playoff, I would like to see the participants be decided on the field, rather than by a committee selection process.

That would necessarily result in a set number of teams qualifying from each conference, but I would prefer that over having a committee decide that Alabama or Notre Dame is more deserving than Penn State in a given year.

No, there’s no “need” for 24 teams, I’ve never sat there and thought the 24th ranked team should be in the championship discussion. Keep it at 12, stop letting in the jmu’s and Tulane’s. No matter what, no one is ever going to be happy anyway. And i could careless what FCS does

Why don't you care about FCS? Why wouldn't we be using their successful playoff when discussing expanding?
Then why are teams like JMU and Tulane in FBS,
10 auto bids with 14 at large teams works perfectly--I've said that for over a decade now
I'm not saying you or anyone has to like that but you do need to prepare for it because it's inevitable.

CCGs wouldn't exist--it's the same number of games as now. We played 16 last year. The max would be 17 and that would be someone outside the top 8 reaching the final.

Aside from Urschel and Rolle--how often in the history of the game did people truly care someone's major. I remember they used to list their majors during telecasts and most were less than impressive

He has a degree--took 3 graduate level classes in the fall--wasn't enrolled for this spring (why would he be?)--what's the issue you have with Beck?
