the brief times i went in there i didn't recognize a single name from UK sports threads. as you said, they just all hang in there and agree with each other about everything

You do realize that everybody that used to post on the Paddock started out on this sites other free boards, right. I've been here since 2009 and a lot of those guys had me beat by a decade.

Raftards wasn't something our rivals came up with. That's home grown. People migrated away from all of the RR hot takes. I haven't posted on RR since the Wisconsin game.

These old sports message boards all came with an off-topic board. If a topic gets derailed, it can always get dumped in the off-topic and not just nuked.

There are some absolute monster off-topic boards still out there. LSU and TamU OTs are as big as this whole site in its prime. It's like some of you found catpaw and didn't know there was a whole world out there.

Then there is the hot take of shitting on the D-league. What the hell? Comments made by guys that have been posting here for a half hour. I've never posted there, but damn. Those DLeague guys have paid their dues. Those guys have been here since the beginning, so **** off that noise.

You are mad because he's right. You all just started a private "free speech" forum but the speech is only free if everyone shares the same political views and agrees on everything..... LOL! I bet it's so boring that the paint has already peeled off of the walls. I'm conservative as it gets, but I knew I wouldn't get invited, and would have never joined, since I never joined the dork show. Some great posters there but 4 or 5 ruined the whole thing. I don't count you as one of them as you've always been fair other than believing the RearRunner whenever he told blatant lies to try and destroy someone.

At the moment, Yes, I do not have the means to shop places that are expensive. I live on a tight budget. Depression for reasons I won’t say costed me my job 2 years back and I’m slowly catching back up from debt at that time. It won’t be long until I am and then I will be living comfortably again. As of now, I am tight.
I am sorry to hear that. And, oddly, I am happy you have inexpensive options while you work through this time in your life.

I didn't really care whether it existed or not. My point was most of the people in the thread were just arguing and I'd say a huge % didn't really even post on anything that was UK Athletics related. They also weren't paying so it's unlikely that On3 will notice it. I'm sure Rowland would have though.
I have been a member of this board for years, longer than most, and I posted in non-sports and sports threads, including the political thread. Many who posted in that thread, as you know, posted their UK sports thoughts in that very thread. It became a bit of a community within the community.

Careful now. Don't say anything Beatle Bum might disagree with. He will call you a homosexual for being a decent human being.
Wow, you seem obsessed with this homosexual stuff. Where does that come from? Who said ANYTHING about homosexuality? And, are you suggesting you cannot be a decent human being AND a homosexual? Why are you finding it hard to actually discuss a topic without getting so personal?

But it is true. Elon maximizing to the last dime doesn’t make me have to keep working to maximize if I’ve made 10 million in real estate and think it’s plenty. Him maximizing doesn’t force me to do anything or make less money. One has nothing to do with the other.

The maximization of profit is founded in the idea that you have to maximize due to the situational reality you might not be making money the next year or the next year. So make all you can now. My point is that’s a dangerous idea and we’re seeing it play out now. My overall ***** was the system is great, the people?

And this bleeds into so many areas, like housing. It’s so simple to just end the pursuit of single family homes to live and let live. But maximization tells the corporations to squeeze it and take them.

My larger point is the system is fine, it works, and it’s the best system ever created. But the way we do it? We’re trading 1 king for 50 kings. It’s at this point that you’re going to have to tweak it not because the system doesn’t work but because men just can’t mentally handle it. Either way any one side looks at it or which system you prefer, if we don’t back off maximization mindsets the lower masses will do what they do in any democratic style form of government. They’re going to grow in numbers and bring it down. This is how democracy falls, but we don’t teach that. We teach to squeeze. People, not system. That’s the issue.
No. People play within the system created. Elon taking more means the rest of us have less. As you said we've traded 1 king for 50. Because that's what capitalism does. Concentrates wealth. It doesn't matter who it is, Elon, the tooth fairy, or Leopold II.

You give a perfect example of housing. Homes are for living. But corporations buy up property as a speculative asset for profit. Capitalism. Pushing normal people out. That is the very basis of capitalism, it isn't an aberration or corruption.

Greed will always exist. It's human nature. So we must design a system that incorporates that, instead of ignoring and attempting to contradict it. As you're doing. Capitalism will always have these flaws as they're inherent to its design.

Elon is worth every cent he makes for making all of the "hidden" information avaialble to his whopping 232M + followers. Paradise!

Do you not have the capability to separate the person from the discussion? You can disagree with a person politically but still agree with other things such as sports.
He didn’t say he disagreed. He said he was a terrible person. And no, I don’t listen to people I think are terrible for 2 hours a day.

Once behind a paywall KSR (the website), Rupp Rafters, On3, etc. will cease to exist. In the social media / AI world that we live in information is free. I’m not sure about economics but I can tell you that isn’t going to work long term.

I would really like to know the economics of running the old school Cat's Pause free boards.
  1. What is the yearly IT cost for hosting a discussion board (such as the General Discussion Board)
    1. According to ChatGPT ($3K to $10K per month for heavy traffic, always on capabilities)
  2. What is the labor cost for moderating a board?
    1. Estimating here about $6K-10K per month as well if you're putting full-time resources to it).
  3. Revenue for page views:
    1. Based on estimated views that this site provided, perhaps like $15K-20K per month.

I assume on3 has such a large footprint that the marginal IT cost for an extra board is pretty low (like almost nothing). Now, if you're On3 you're probably thinking about it in terms of allocating IT costs across all the boards. So let's assume $1K per month just to put something in there.

Now, adding a resource to monitor it is going to cost something. Yeah, you could probably use AI to help with it, but let's say in costs $9K a month to do it. That's $10K a month total for costs. With the traffic leading to the advertising, you're still making $5-10K profit a month by running it. So in theory you're making money.

But, and here's what I think is going on, On3's position might be that by offering a free site, you're cannibalizing what would have been sales to your paid site. So let's say 10% of the ~50,000 people who used the old site for free would be willing to pay $100 a year to use the new site. That's $500K in marginal revenue per year, which is much higher than the ad revenue from the free stuff.

Again, numbers are purely an estimate, but I would assume that's what On3 is thinking.

Ehh I dont know. I think this is mostly because forums are the VHS tapes of the 2000s. Less and less people are using them. No one under 30 is signing up, and theres less and less desire to manage these forums.

I dont think this has anything to do with UK basketball being meh.

At the same time, Mitch can kick rocks and he should have been shown the door years ago.

I talked to my bro yesterday. He has 4 kids. His oldest is 13 or 14. Asks him. “Does UK ever win”? The apathy in Uk athletics definitely has an impact. Young people used to post here I know a couple but UK bb is to the back burner now. Next year may be the most crucial season in our history. We will see by then which direction our brass decides to go. Continue to ignore our bb program or if they try to start getting us back on top. Most UK fans won’t care about fb success if what makes us proud to be Kentuckians is our tradition. Gotta fix the bb program. Can’t believe Barney continues on and our fanbase isn’t giving this guy the bill curry or John Higgins treatment. It’s mind boggling
