QB: TA was, as usual, very inconsistent. Some really nice throws, but some really ugly ones and some really bad mechanics. He actually seemed a little slow running around in the backfield.

RB: Wilbon looked the best. Still not sure why Cross is out there. When you are built like he is, and you get on the outside, why run out of bounds??? Stick it to the defender and truck him before surrendering to the sideline!

WR: What else can you say about Westerkamp? Dude is a boss. We have some good depth here

OL: Not impressed at all.

DL: Not impressed either. Four man rush was not getting pressure.

LB: Young is a going to be a star.

DB: Very inconsistent.

ST: We're in trouble.

Agree on Wilbon. He looked to be the best back. Our DE is the trouble spot. The middle was getting a decent push, but nothing from the outside.

How can you be consistent at QB with an OL like that, and they can't snap the ball.

TA had a good game yesterday. Including key blocks.

When the OL blocked he delivered.

+1 Start with OL and it's a trickle down. TA was absolutely on fire in the 1st, when protection was by far it's best. He settled after a shaky 2nd and executed pretty well. We all know his strengths and weaknesses so you look at the stat line and that's above average play, building off USC last year. I don't think it's hard to see, but TA is trending in the right direction. The trajectory isn't as steep as we'd like, but I commend him on running a passing offense effectively with WRs constantly rotating in and out, losing TEs and Kondolo not blocking anyone.

My 9 year old son asked me why we were only rushing 4 guys and giving the QB so much time. Not impressed.

Here is the problems which I see as most concerning

1 after a whole summer of being told we will not force a square peg in a round hole. That is exactly what they did. They took a team with a skill set of running the ball and tried to be some MAC passing team and it did not work

2 I did not see an aggressive running to the ball defense. I saw hesitation and uncertainty especially from the DB

So far not impressed and if we do not get much better from a coaching standpoint it could be a very long season

I think there was this impression the team under performed under Bo - and that installing new coaches would suddenly elevate the team. We found out that was not true vs BYU. We can get better but the ceiling for this season is lower than hoped. Plus - Banker appears to be a very average DC - I saw some individual good play of D - not alot of gang tackling and inspired play on D.

2 things they need to figure out is improving the Oline play - do we have the best 5 on the field? And we need a pass rush. They may need to specialize the rush package on clear passing downs - even if that means 3 DEs + Collins as the front 4. Or moving our best pass rushing LB to the LOS.

My 9 year old son asked me why we were only rushing 4 guys and giving the QB so much time. Not impressed.

I didn't have a problem with it as they did that in the first half. I'm assuming that the D staff wanted to get a look at what they were going to do for a half, and hoped we'd get more pressure from the front 4. I expected them after the first half to blitz and they did. For 29:59 of the 2nd half they held them to 3 points. So they obviously made correct adjustments (what a nice change).

Had the bad snap/fumble not occurred giving BYU the short field, it could have been a tied game at half.
