A friend of mine's son is engaged to a lady from Ecuador

she was planning a trip here in July to visit her new family. Tourist Visa DENIED. No reason given just denied. She then told me that this is a growing issue as folks are talking about friend and family denied visas into the US for no reason. She relayed a story where a friends grandmother in the Philippines wanted to come visit her new grandson...DENIED. My friend told me that there be belief that nobody is getting a visa these days. I don't know whether this is speculation, fact, of just a social media rumor. But it is interesting to hear this as I am sure fiancées and grandmas are fairly benign tourists and not likely to wreck havoc on the US society.

The truth is that our visa officers have always had absolute power to deny a visa for any reason, or no reason. Lack of documentation, hangover, hangnail, or just don't like the applicant's looks. And they don't have to explain why. And the applicant doesn't get their application fee back, if they want to try again they have to come with the money for another try.

Yes but they usually didn't deny grandmas from visiting their grandkids Seems to go along the anti immigrant environment

Maybe your friend's son's fiancée is a drug mule. Might want to look into that. Maybe grandmother is connected to Abu Sayyaf. Should check that out.
