Should high schools provide equipment such as clubs, balls, carts, and lessons like they do in other sports?

They do provide coaching, at least my kids school did. They also provided balls on several occasions. I don’t think they should provide clubs. Clubs need to fit the player. It would be tough to have enough clubs to fit anyone who decided to play. Also they don’t provide equipment for every sport. High school golfers must walk, at least in Kentucky, so unless you mean pull carts, they wouldn’t apply. Most guys won’t use them. Some of the girls do. They don’t provide gloves for baseball or sticks for lacrosse. I think they generally provide the right level of support for golf.

Balls probably. The coach should be giving lessons. Most golfers want specific clubs, balls, gloves, ect. My son plays football. We pay for cleates. They obviously supply pads, uniforms , ect. A lot of baseball kids buy there own bats.

Only to transgenders trying to make the girls team. They deserve it for being so brave.

My daughter is currently on her 2nd year playing on the HS team and I think the school gives us $1,500 per year but that is for range time at the local course, tournament fees which usually run $250-300 each tournament and any that is left over (there is none) can be spent on whatever else. Our booster club has to do fund raisers to pay for remaining tournaments and cover charges for any overnight stays, meals, awards at the season ending banquet, etc.

Now granted I don't know the budget allowed for each team but my guess is football, basketball, baseball, etc gets more than that per year. I also know that those sports have spectators who are paying to watch which helps offset the extra money where golf typically only has parents watching. I do feel that for a lot of kids the money that is required to be paid out of pocket by parents may keep some from ever having an opportunity to play. There are probably a lot of kids whose parents can't afford country club memberships, golf clubs, balls or lessons to play and the school doesn't provide those things.

My son played last year (Soph) for his first season. The school is quite large, about 2500 students. Yet I think all they pay for the golf program is the coach, who did give some instruction. Maybe the use of a couple cheap courses for tryouts too. But the golf team (10 kids on boys team) got donations (I think about $5K) which were used for polo-shirts (that they had to return at the end of the season), hats, range balls, and practice time (greens fees) on home course, and greens fees for the ones (I think 6 each week) that competed in the school matches. They also have school golf bags to use, which they also turn in at the end of the season.
