A Heads Up on my Upcoming Schedule

Folks, I'm headed off on an extended vacation. My wife and I will be flying to Hawaii this coming Sunday (2/8), and not returning until late 2/23. I'll have my computer with me, and may make an occasional post (probably night time, Hawaii time), but for the most part I'll be off the boards for the coming two weeks. (More so than is the norm for most vacations I've taken in recent years.) The BWI guys will be checking the board more frequently. If a thread needs moderator attention, please put in a post asking for a Clean Up, and tag:

@RyanSnyder, @NateBauer @GregPickel

and one of them should address the problem.

I haven't missed an Olympics in decades, but I'm pretty much going to miss the 2026 Winter Olympics. And I'll be in flight during the Super Bowl. Oh well, to do certain things, you have to give up other things.

Any of you are more than welcome to post updates in any of the PSU Sport threads, to keep folks appraised of how the various PSU teams are doing while I'm away. @Midnighter, I'm leaving the Awards Show polls to you while I'm away. I can't promise to update the Premier League thread while I'm away, so hopefully some of you will post scores and updates in that.

Have fun while I'm away, Please behave. And hopefully the PSU teams will give fans and alums a lot to be happy about during this interval where I'm not around too much.

Awesome. We went two years ago and are going again for two weeks this summer. FIL is retired Army Reserve so we stay at the Halekoa - best deal in town (and amazing how many people from the Hilton Hawaiian Village try to sneak into the pool because its massive and way less crowded). Our favorite dinner was at the Tommy Bahama in Waikiki. Have fun!

I am sure you will do the USS Arizona while in Honolulu at Pearl Harbor. Well worth it. If you can get up to the north shore. Waves will be rocking at the Banzai pipeline. A great place to have lunch there on the beach is https://www.haleiwabeachhouse.com/about-us (used to be called Jameson's) and for dessert have the original shaved ice at Matsumoto's https://matsumotoshaveice.com/ You can also visit the tv show "Lost" filming places on on the island and beach scenes from the show up at the North Shore. https://www.slashfilm.com/1803978/lost-filming-locations-explained/ There are also several places to swim with dolphins on Oahu. We did it and loved it.

Pearl is Day 1 on the itinerary. I'd done vacations where every day is mapped out in advance. This one, we just have loose plans, with lodging locked in and we'll work around that.

Thanks for the info on the Banzai pipeline. We'll be on the North Shore later this week, and had a loose set of plans, but I'd love to check out Banzai. Hopefully we can make it work.

I swam with dolphins in the Florida Keys @ 20 years ago. It was great -- probably not something I need to do again, but I'll keep it in mind.

Used to go to Oahu on business and I always made sure to watch the sunset from the porch at Jamieson's as often as I could. Great memories!

Pearl is Day 1 on the itinerary. I'd done vacations where every day is mapped out in advance. This one, we just have loose plans, with lodging locked in and we'll work around that.

Pearl Harbor is amazing but you only get 10 minutes or so on the Arizona. Rest of the time you can walk the grounds and see a short film. There is a sister ship next to it for an additional fee. We didn’t have a car and our tour guide piloted three hours for us and it was way too long.

Agree about Matsumoto’s in the North Shore - best shaved ice on the island.
