Why not do this . Overall budget for coach 3.5 million , OC 600, 000 DC 700,000.

Spend it this way . Head coach salary 250 ,000. OC 1.5 million DC 1.7 million. . Savings about 1.3 million to use for other coachS salaries to have the best .

Duties would be as follows : OC
EVERYTHING RELATED TO OFFENSE .RECRUITING , COACHING , MAKING SURE STUDENTS ATTEND CLASS OFFENS SPECIAL TEAMS HIRING OFFENSE STAFF . Time management while on offense.

DC EVERYTHING RELATED TO DEFENSE SAME AS OC FOR DEFENSE

HEAD coach . Everything else . Speaking to alums, sending out Christmas cards etc,.

In the event a decision has to be made between OC and DC he breaks the tie.

So you would have the best offense and defense in the nation . What's wrong with doing it that way ?

Could save a bundle and have best coordinators in country.

I don't think you would get anybody to be head coach with that pay scale.
I would do it. What a life . Snoozing alums , no stress recruiting , team management,.i would not have to know anything about football . That is the least of reasons this would not work . I am told Vandy kind of did this last year. After the first year their head coach said he wanted nothing to do with offense he would do the defense only ( he had been a DC) . OC has complete authority over the offense.

II am just intrigued with having both the highest paid OCand DC. They may or may not be the best depending on who is hiring them but the difference in 600 grand and 1.5 million with only half the responsibility and half the headaches should be attractive to most people.

Vandy might not be your best example. If they paid their OC more then the HC, they wasted their money, if they paid him anything.

No they paid him much less . The head coach had been a defensive coordinator . Realized he was in over his head and the professor that runs the program ( they don't waste money on an AD position decided to help him out. His defense was darn good. They are not paying anything like wag act I suggest for the OC but have a clear line f demarcation. Probably not a good example but with head coaches salaries going through the roof I think it nay be worth a try.

What if you had Bo Pellini handling the defense and Jeff Brohm the offense .

And Saban as the HC. So you think you could get those two for $600,000?

The problem with that is that a team without an overall leader and decision maker if doomed for failure. A team can't have two leaders. Someone has to be in charge and make calls for the team as a whole, whether that is in game decisions, recruiting numbers, etc. Without a single leader, the team would be a train wreck.

You might as well not even have a head coach. If the coordinators are THAT good, they'll end up taking a head coach position that pays a real salary and they can run a whole team. Then you'll churn through coordinators, which will get you nowhere.

That's a nice plan, but top coordinators all over the SEC are making that now and with that budget you would be fighting FCS schools for coaches, heck a select few HS coaches in Georgia are making near 150k a year and a car. Of course half of that is coming from a booster club and he better be winning big and 10-0 isn't good enough

30th sounds about right. We have a very unproven coaching staff. When you have an unproven staff, you have lower salaries. I would assume the money is there to bring in better, more expereinced coaches if needed.
