During the rush of all of us trying to fill our coaching staffs, some of you mentioned James Coley, the ex Miami OC, and the possibility of him joining UK's staff before you made your hires. It's beginning to look like he is about to become part of our staff as TE coach. Do any of you have any info on him, seemed like some where thinking he might be a UK hire before you made your 2 offensive hires, any reason to be excited about him or is he a ho-hum type of hire?

I am still hoping for my former player, Billy Napier, who is at Bama now to be our new WR coach, and we still need a DC.and a position coach, either LB or DB.

He was mentioned a lot when Stoops was initially hired as OC, but I believe Jimbo called the plays at FSU anyway.

Supposedly a great recruiter, particularly in Miami area. It was hard to judge how he was as a play caller because of all the youth and Al Golden drama going on at Miami. As a tight end coach, I'd imagine it would be a great hire if only for the South Florida recruiting ties.

Georgia and Miami basically have a wife swapping arrangement with coaches.

As strange as that sounds it seems to be the case,

No, he won't be calling plays for us if he is hired, gives us someone in the Miami area as a recruiter. He was at LSU with Saban, Fisher and Smart so there's the connection I guess. So I guess there is reason to be excited. Hopefully Napier will take the WR job if we offer a title like recruiting coordinator of associate head coach, but don't know if he has been approached, he is telling, or his brothers are anyway, he hasn't been asked. I am hoping he is telling them to tell anyone that to keep distractions down until after the NC game.

Thx

He would be a good get and, as others have said, would be a wonderful recruiter in the south Florida area.

I might have missed who it was if you have one already!

We already have one, Jim Chaney who was at Pitt this year, was at Arkansas the previous 2. He was at the meeting last night with Smart and Coley, Offensively we have an OC/QB coach, who is Chaney and OL coach is Sam Pittman. We are needing a RB, WR and TE coach.

The coachingsearch.com ticker says that Coley will coach WRs and that Smart is expected to hire Dell McGee from Georgia Southern as the RBs coach. It also mentions Marshall Malchow from Washington who was their director of player personnel as taking a job in some sort of recruiting capacity

http://coachingsearch.com/coaching-search-ticker

Yes all 3 of those hires have been made, Malchow will be the guy coordinating official and unofficial visits for recruits. McGee coached HS ball in Georgia for several years, was a founding member of Georgia's minority coaches association for whatever that's worth. He is well known and liked by HS coaches in Georgia. He did a year on AU's support staff and has been RB coach at Georgia Southern the last 2 years and was interium head coach for them in their first bowl game. Outgoing personable guy so hopefully he is a good recruiter, he will be welcomed in a lot of Georgia HS.

Coley is going to coach WR, not the guy I was wanting but no one asked me, he has strong ties to south Florida, something we didn't have so maybe he can bring us 1 or 2 guys from there a year.

That leaves us needing a DC who will either coach DB or LB and a TE coach. Beamer interviewed Sat but he has gone quiet so either he is thinking it over or not interested. I don't really know whats going on, none of the "insiders" who have contacts with people at the athletic building are getting any information.
