A question for tech geeks concerning transferring DVR recordings to something permanent.

For years, I've been transferring DVR recordings to DVD using my good old DVD recorder.

Yeah, I'm about 10 years behind in technology.

Looks like my trusty DVD recorder is about to die. And new ones are outrageously expensive.

So are there any other alternatives?

I like to keep memorable games on some kind of permanent media.

Appreciate any ideas.

Probably depends on what your computer setup looks like. I think if you have a newer computer with USB 3.0 you might be able to use an hdmi capture device to do it. It's the way gamers record their games to put on YouTube. Then you can transfer it to a DVD if you want using DVD converter software.

I don't know if there are any issues with copy protection but if you already have done it with a DVD recorder than probably not. You would just have to record while playing the video so it will take a while. I've never tried it with these devices lately though so you might have to do some more research first. Here is an example of one.

I'm not recommending this one. Just using it as an example. I don't know how good it is. There's a ton of them on Amazon with a wide variety of prices.

I've been using my DVD recorder for years without many issues recording.

I knew there would come a time when I would have to upgrade.

I use to do it in the past when I was trying to save some old VHS tapes to my computer. I used something like this back then.

Of course that sucks for HD now. I also had a capture card installed in my computer at one time that connected to a coaxial cable and you could watch TV or record with that. I don't have a good computer anymore or I would have tried out one of those HDMI capture ones that I mentioned in my other post. Let us know what you figure out and if it works for you.
