I did a version of this on intermat a while back. I thought the week of Thanksgiving would be a good time to dust this off.

As I am working to build an NCAA tournament results database with two other guys I have been staring at a lot of names. Sometimes you come across interesting ones, so I thought I would share. Think of it as an appetizer of Thanksgiving week.

  • Sneaky Best Wrestler Name - They were destined for this Gordon Roesler (Oklahoma 1956-1958) and Karl Roesler (Illinois 1996-1999)
  • A Boy Named Sue - I dare you to find out Scott Whimpey (Weber State 1971) and Dennis Whimpey (BYU 1975)
  • Middle Name? Pin - No need to look this up, I checked with his parents Mark Faller (Harvard 1970)
  • Last Name? Fall: - Again, I already checked Paul Pinnt (Colorado Mines 1959)
  • I Was Born To Be A Folkstyle Wrestler - Get comfortable on bottom, we are going to be here a while Donny Rider (Fresno State 1998)
  • I Always Get My Arm Raised: - All I do is.... Nathan Winner (Southern Oregon 1983-1984)
  • Dude Is Brutal - Its right there in the name Joel Savage (Utah 1976)
  • Me, Myself, and I - Am I seein' double? Nick Neville (Oklahoma 1985 - 1987) vs. Nick Nevills (PSU 2017-2018)
  • Wrestling Royalty - It's good to be the.... Matt King (Edinboro 1999-2004)
  • A Natural Born Politician - The ayes have it. Brandon and Brad Alderman (Wyoming 1996)
  • I Would Cross Plains, Rivers and Mountains To See This - I thought they would work together, but in 2003 Lewis defeated Clark (Tyrone Lewis decisioned John Clark in the 165 5th place match)
  • How Ya Doin? - Saul Goodman approves. John Allgood (Nebraska 1966)

King beat Billy Konovsky for the IL title his senior year. Billy and his brother Bob jr went to my grade and high school, older and younger than I. Bob sr was a pal of my Dad. He played for the Chicago Cardinals, and wrestled at WI. He was 3 time Big T champ and 2x Nat runner up in the 50's. As kids, all we knew is that he wrestled and played football. Took a big physical toll on him. Great father and always nice and helpful to us'n kids

Dowling legend Bob Darrah had a son (pretty capable wrestler as well) named Matthew King Darrah…

he went by Matt, so it was Matt King
