that ended the careers of two academics:

It is shocking that a couple alleged incidents, a weekend of protests, and a hunger strike led to the ousting of the top two public university officials.
Via The Missouri Columbian with added commentary:

Sept. 12: Missouri Students Association president Payton Head posts about a racial slur directed at him. Head alleged he was walking around campus when the passenger of a pickup repeatedly shouted the “N-word” at him.

Oct. 5: Legion of Black Collegians members are allegedly the targets of racial slurs by a man on campus. The Legion of Black Collegians shared a letter on social media describing the group’s encounter with overt racism the night before. The group was rehearsing for a performance at Traditions Plaza when a “young man” talking on his cellphone walked up to the group. After being politely and repeatedly asked to leave, the man walked away but referenced LBC members using racial slurs.

Oct. 8: After the two alleged incidents — Chancellor Loftin announces mandatory online diversity training for faculty, staff and students, which is met with widespread skepticism.

Oct. 10: Members of Concerned Student 1950 protest mob block the car carrying UM System President Tim Wolfe during the homecoming parade.

The protest mob blocked the parade.
No disciplinary action was taken.

Oct. 21: Concerned Student 1950 issues a statement of demands, including a formal apology from Wolfe and his removal from office. The group demands that Tim Wolfe admit his white privilege.

List looks pretty biased by leaving out some key events. Fox News?

What was left out? And the source was the Missouri Columbian, fwiw.

As usual, you only tell part of the story. A swastika was smeared on the bathroom wall using fecal matter. White faculty have joined the protests and have stated that things are racially "out of control". They said they've never seen anything like this in their 30 years of being a faculty member. The football team threatened not to play on Saturday, which would have resulted in a $1 million penalty, not to mention the untold lost revenue.

So did they catch the poop-smearing-swastika maker and the President let him go? Did the Jewish football players protest as well?

It amazes my how one person has the power to change things just by doing something crazy. 25,000 people did nothing and one person smeared poop and now everything changes. It reminds me of the Israeli-Palestinian issue where things will be going relatively good between them and then one crazy person does something and suddenly the relations between the millions of other folks on both sides has changed radically.

Football team could have played. They'd have lost for sure, but still could have played.

So what you're saying is that people over reacted?

What's fascinating about the Mizzou thing is about how both sides (players and fans) are absolutely addicted to college football. So the football players said they weren't going to play unless change happened and they got their way but it's not that they thought the issue was more important than football but rather they knew they'd win. If Mizzou responded by saying "Okay, I guess we'll have to cancel football season then" the players wouldn't have been like "Yeah, good, you take that" but instead they'd have been like "Wait, what, cancel football season, you can't do that."

UAB stopped their football program a couple years ago (they've since decided to resume it) and the footballs were outraged, despite the fact that UAB was going to give them free education and despite the fact that they could have gone elsewhere to play.

Being a college football player is so important to their identity and yet having a college football program is so important to the fans.

Yeah but what I'm saying is that people always overreact in that situation so in a way it's not an overreaction if people always react that way. I find it interesting that the reaction to the actions of one person is so strong.

It feels like masses of people are too easily manipulated by one or two loonies. Maybe in a way that encourages the loonies to do what they do. The statement, whatever it might be, of smearing poop isn't their reward, rather it becoming a big story is their reward.

They still don't know who did that. Imagine, there is one person somewhere in Missiouri looking at all this national reaction and saying to themselves "Wow, I did all that!" It must make them feel powerful and important.

Apparently, once again, you can't read. The alleged feces smearing was in my original post, just click on the link. These 3 incidents comprise "racially out of control"? In what world do you live?

In what State do you live? Lol, Isn't Ferguson in that State? It wasn't the incidents so much as it was the muted response from the old white guys running the joint. They probably agree with you on most issues actually and are spinning their confused heads right now about how the real world works as opposed to how it used to when old white guys ruled.

I live in a world where I watch the news and select multiple sources for my news, recognizing the bias of the respective news sources. It was more than 3 incidents. Multiple faculty said it "was an atmosphere of racial injustice (which included whites)". It had been happening for a while, it just wasn't getting much attention until the football team threatened not to play. Get out of your bubble.

funny the fine folks on MSNBC were asking the same thing...a whole panel of people on MSNBC were asking the same thing - was there more to this to get this type of reaction?

Show me the incidents? Even MSNBC this morning, including the perilously liberal Eugene Robinson, couldn't find the justification for this. What was the atmosphere of racial injustice? Please give me more examples.

Do you not think it is incumbent upon those athletes that believe in education to have a protest. The leading academic at the institution was forcibly removed without a trial by his peers is very near, if not actual, anarchy. How can those students support such action without rebelling to show support of our constitution and legal system?

What was the University to say re: Furgeson considering the whole outrage was based on a lie.

Same thing with Baltimore and Freddy Gray.

Same thing in Florida with Trayvon Martin.

All three incidents and the subsequent aftermath were based on a lie.
