I know there is strong excitement here for WVU to the ACC and I also know that is the most likely destination. I'll take that option if it is WVU's only choice and be honestly grateful for it.

But,,, ACC is a boring brand now. Playing VT, I'm excited for that. spitt in the Backyard Brawl, I can't wait to embarrass them. The rest honestly are snoozers these days. It isn't the 80's and 90's anymore.

I'd much prefer the BIG or the SEC. Miami took the "less travel" route and they have diminished in stature. While the Texas and Oklahoma footprint was a geographicaly odd, IMO WVU benefited from the competition and exposure. WVU also became a much larger brand as a result as well. Not that CFB fans didn't know about WVU before, they just received even greater exposure. The same would be true with the BIG or the SEC.

Sorry, but Syracuse, NC State, UVA, Wake Forest, etc... just doesn't get many excited these days.

WVU MUST survive and move on. The ACC seems to be the best option at this point.

The BIG 10 would be a great conference to be in and likely more stable than the ACC is going to be, but the ACC is a FAR better option than the PAC 12 or--gulp--AAC? That would be the end of major sports for WVU.

If we end up in 16-team ACC, our division would hopefully include Pitt, VT, BC, Louisville, UVa (unless they go B1G). Majority of in-conference games would include much of our schedule from 70s to the 00s.
But I agree, I have little interest in football vs Wake, Duke, GT.

If they go 16 teams and go to quad format of 4 in each with the 2 highest ranked playoff teams battling for the title. If all P4 conferences do this then you have your first 8 and G5 left out and crying.

While the Big XII was a life saver for us when the Big East was falling apart, the truth is that the ACC is where we should have been all along. I just hope they will let us in this time around.

With all the old guard moving on in death and retirement and WVU connections in the conference the chances are better than ever but no guarantee.

Can't help but laugh when someone posts that WVU has a big badass brand name. Wish it were so outside of Star City. Truth is big brand name...no.

If a miracle happens and we in the B1G, probably a heavy diet of PennSt, Ohio St, Mich, Mich St, MD, Rutgers.
Probably only 2 games a season against western B1G teams.

Correct, and the Hoosiers. With that steady diet of competition, you need to hope your two crossover games aren't against Wisconsin and Iowa.

Hey maybe Georgia and South Carolina move to the ACC and WVU and Pitt goes to the SEC. That would be awesome.

Is the next shoe to drop from the ACC or from the PAC? Next move on the chessboard will not involve pawns, not even knights, it will be rooks and bishops and Queen and checkmate. And no, no pawn gets elevated to a queen in this game.

So we play 3 patsies OOC beat Rutgers and Maryland then only need 1 for a bowl game.

It's either ACC, B1G or AAC. I would rather it be either of the first 2.

Look, we all agree:

1. ACC is a somewhat boring brand of football with weaker schedules( on average).
2. ACC would renew old rivals
3. BigTen would be more profitable & higher levels of competition, though less likely of being invited.
4. WVU is not in a position to "choose". It'll take some work on Gee, Lyons, & Politicians part to get us in to any new conference, for which we need to be grateful, either way as long as its a P5/P4.
5. WVU is in a far better position now then it was in the last realignemt

Those things aside, I havent researched this because Im swamped with work, but between the ACC & BigTen which is the best Basketball conference? Or, which conference would value our basketball program the most from an acquisition perspective?

While Football is the main focus lately, what other sports do conferences value? Does WVU have anything else to bring more value?

Lately our Basketball, Soccer, Rifle, Baseball, & Wrestling have been better then average.

Also, what data/metrics would conferences value?

Facility's quality
History/Wins/Accomplishments
Brand Familiarity
Brand Sales
Attendance
Recruiting
Tier1(R1) Research Status
Rhode Scholars
Land Grant exceptions - Land grant universities typically have lower academics than others.

While we will never be a blueblood like a BAma, OSU, LSU, etc, we are damn sure head & shoulders better then many ACC programs and some BigTen programs holistically. We dont meet some of the criteria they weighted years ago, but when a certain conference lays all else to the side and only focuses on athletics, I would imagine some of these conferences will be forced to adapt their weighting strategy.

There is a chance the BIG12 expands..

Under an "optimal" hypothetical situation lets say Bolsby adds:

UCF BoiseSt Houston BYU Cinci

Arizona ArizonaSt & Utah

That makes a BIG16. However, now you are splitting revenues 16 ways. There would be an organic benefit by expanding media footprints, still not sure WVU's BIG16 revenues would be equal to a projected ACC revenues.

Unless, the "founding members + old Pac12 teams" got a higher % revenue split then the new Go5 teams, at least for the first 4-6 years.

IN my mind, this is the only way the Big12/16 can survive/thrive. It'll need to add the top 5-6 Go5 teams, and at least 1 - 2 Pac12 teams(which I have zero faith in Bolsby to accomplish). Even if he does, would WVU's revenues be higher in the ACC??

If the revenues are >= ACC's, would the conference be able to survive future realignments? Would that be a safe play by WVU?

With the ACC's low revenue splits, what is the possibility in the next realignment SEC or BigTen go after the top ACC schools? If Clemson, FSU, Miami, ND, & UNC all left the ACC, could the conference survive?

To mitigate the future aggressive acquisition strategy by the SEC or BigTen, if I was the ACC or Pac12 I would expand to a 20 team league now. There is strength in numbers & diversified media markets, and this would help alleviate future losses should a few of the bigger brands leave.

The best move for the ACC or Pac12 is to accept all remaining Big12 teams into their conference. While Im not sure that will happen, it would be a "Protectionist" strategy, insightful. At this point, its about strength & size, you cant apply a weight to factors that inhibit competitiveness from a revenue perspective.

So, will it be an all out acquisition war? Will conference throw historical Academic standards/preferences to the side in order to expand media markets? Will actions be based on a business / Merger perspective? I suppose we will see.

Im curious to see how these conference choose to move forward, and which are most aggressive at securing their future via expansion, to mitigate the average brand size of the SEC programs.

If so, which conferences will target which schools, if both conferences move forward aggressively? If that is the case, WVU may be in a position to be acquired by both conferences. Though, I seriously doubt any conference will be this aggressive.

Im confident WVU will be ok, I have faith in the current staff/org/leadership, I suppose at this point Im more curious to see which of these other conferences are Gordon Gecko 2.0

Writing page after page of disjointed drivel doesn't make you look intelligent.
I could careless what a lowlife antagonist forum troll thinks. You're a sad & pathetic little man who spends his time as a collegiate athletics forum troll. Imagine how proud your parents are of you, such grandeur, stature, & life's works.

Sir, I have no ego to test. Im self made with humble beginnings, and surely nothing I do, write, say, or type here is for anyone's approval or individual perceptions, moreover and particularly regarding to my intellect.

Im here to talk sports with those who share my passion & support of WVU. If that bothersome, you can go elsewhere. Individual liberty is a lovely thing.

Obviously no one in America gives a crap about 8 programs in the Big12. Maybe you missed it. The Big12 Was a two trick pony. Oh yeah......it’s imploding as well. Kansas, Kansas St, TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor, ect. Doesn’t excite anyone that doesn’t live in Hicktown, USA.

WVU is better off playing against teams like Texas, OU, Alabama, Clemson, UGA instead of Pitt, VT, Syracuse, etc. I'd much rather play ranked teams instead of rival games against unranked teams nobody cares about.

The ACC needs to discuss a merger with the SEC. If the SEC takes Clemson and UNC, the ACC becomes Big East 3.0. We are entering Big East 2.0 as of last week.

The ACC now has the target on their back. The PAC 12 is way weaker, but their geography is saving them from Darwinism. They will eventually merge with the Big 10.

I said little, not no.

No secret that I want WVU to be in the SEC, but I also have little interest vs South Carolina and Georgia too.

Hopefully one year WVU will play Bama, LSU, UGA, Florida, N.D., Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, USC, Oregon, Texas and Oklahoma. Other than that apparently you won’t get excited.

Nope I got your point. It’s was just whinny and annoying watching a grown adult mope about the Big12 imploding. The ACC is an upgrade for WVU. You can’t dog the ACC without dealing with the realities of WVU in the Big12. Remember the entire discussion is actually about the Big12 and it’s implosion. Stop thinking in a vacuum........moron.

Greg,
Do you think the ACC will be aggressive in its acquisition? What do you think is the probability of ACC leadership attempt to become the first 20 team conference to diversify media markets, and potentially mitigate future losses, should a couple of the larger brands leave for higher revenues at some point in the future, which will probably occur at some point given the disparity in allocations?

Not familiar with ACC leadership/perspectives, but if Im the PAC12 or ACC I gotta think they are seriously considering countering the SEC/BigTen by adding as many media markets as possible.

What do you think is the likelihood they adapt the weightings of what they value/prefer, and move forward strictly from a business perspective?

If that is the case, which 6 BIG12 programs the ACC would target?

The ACC will do what ESPN wants them to do. The money will not be what the Big 10 or SEC, so why add anyone and end up reducing the share of the pie?

Honestly I think the 1st goal of the remaining schools will be to try and find a new home. If that goal is unattainable then they will probably add a few more teams to try and maximize as much revenue as possible. The teams available will be G5 programs. The big 12 isn't getting teams from existing power 5 conferences. I spend most of the fall and winter in Az. I can tell you that the sun devils and wildcats are not leaving the pac 12 for the dumpster fire known as the big 12. The pac 12 has had its fair share of problems but it is stable at the moment and the big 12 has never been stable and never will be. Even if Texas and Oklahoma had stayed there is speculation that the next contract isn't going to be as good. If we are forced to remain in the big 12 are next contract will almost certainly fall below the other power conferences. The biggest threat at the moment is probably the Pac 12 poaching some of the remaining Big 12 schools. The paycheck in the pac 12 won't be as good as it was in the Big 12 before Texas and Oklahoma left but it will be better than a big 12 paycheck without them. We have enjoyed good revenues streams under this current contract but lets face it the gravy train is leaving the station.

totally fine with that really.

already have
Pitt
BC
Cuse
VT
MIami
Louisville (I mean ..does anyone really have a complaint they replace Rutgers/Temple here?
ND
round out that division with WVU

Why not, those are 8 teams no one wants unless the SEC/BIG go to 30 team leagues.

The other side of thatl eage though, after this expansion, is not likely to be very pretty.
