It doesn't take ESP to see where this is heading. The ACC is as top heavy (Clemson) as any football conference can get. It really isn't an "if" as much as it is a "when". I assume once the Big 12 dust settles and Texas and OK are in the SEC, then the SEC will strike again.
The real questions will be:
1) When?
My guess will be 2025. That gives ESPN time to adjust to the UT/OK transition in 2023 (zero chance of that waiting 4 years).
2) What happens to the other ACC teams?
IMO, the SEC will table VT and FSU to see what else they can get (ND). A couple of teams get into the Big 10 (UNC and Duke). They rest are flotsam.
3) Will WVU join the ACC even if that happens?
Sad to say but probably. I'll guess some of the leftovers from the Big 12 will be invited. The fact that our academic numbers still suck 10 years later is 100% Gee's fault. We need a true plan of attack (turfing out to a CC system/reduce acceptance rates, ramp up research). Even if getting into the ACC only buys us until 2030, we can improve our lot.
There will be 2 rafts leaving the NCAA by 2030...the SEC and Big 10. If you aren't on one of those you are f'd. The open seats on those rafts are disappearing quickly. I would present our academic CAP to the Big 10 and SEC sometime yesterday and pray it works.
