Duke is hard to figure. No new transfers, unless I missed someone. Very young. I don't see a Cooper Flagg or Kneuppel in their recruiting class, but it's still a very talented freshman class. OTOH, they arguably have more returning talent than usual. Guys who could have started last year for other schools will start this year. Will that make up for lower average talent?Last year was a rare exception to the usual dook over-ranking. But this year they’ll return to form and underperform their rankings.
I’m going to say Louisville underperforms too, and the Kelsey hype takes at least a small hit.
Torvik probably has the top three right unless the Moo Cows sneak in. But I wouldn’t bet on them finishing in that order.
I would add that this is about fifty-percent objective assessment and fifty-percent wishful thinking.
Asking AIs I learned that the ages of our likely starting players look like thisIt’s definitely surprising that we’re the second youngest team. Maybe some teams have given up recruiting HS players in large part.
In any case, our starting five in particular may be young comparatively, but they’re not that young. Luka, Seth, and Veesaar have plenty of experience, and Evans has a fair amount too. We’re young to the extent that Dixon and Denis are in the rotation, and James Brown perhaps.
3-5 preseason is a fair ranking for UNC next year. 3 might be a little generous, honestly. Hopefully they overachieve. Most rankings I've seen have Duke and Louisville on top. We're anywhere from 3rd to 5th.
I was surprised to see that we are the 2nd youngest team in the league, according to Torvik. Duke being the youngest.
