Look, I think we all want Duke to have a glorious 4-day run to an ACC title. But I think some people are overlooking how difficult that is with 6 players (assuming no more injuries), a hobbled Matt Jones, and 5mpg from Jeter. Coach K isn't going to suddenly going to expand the bench, nor should he. We have all seen how difficult these Monday games have been (we are 1-2 in conference on Monday), and that is with 50-54 hours rest. It's unrealistic to think a young team with virtually no bench can win 4 days in a row against this competition. You saw in the Pitt game what mental fatigue can do. I've been saying this for weeks so people don't jump off a cliff when we lose on Wednesday or Thursday. We are much better positioned to make a run in the NCAAT than the ACCT.

yeah, but id love to win the acct and then rest up for the big dance..=)

I at least want to beat the winner of NC State vs Wake Forest, but if we lose to Notre Dame, we lose! Do I want to beat ND? Absolutely, but if not, like a poster said earlier the real games start next week. If we do beat ND, then I want nothing more then to beat the cheaters and go 2-1 in the series this season and knock them out of the tournament. Of course if we do beat the cheaters, it won't be Duke that beat them, it will be the refs that beat them according to the THR buffoons.

I honestly think we have a better chance of winning 4 straight in the NCAA's than the ACC tourney.
Reason 1. More rest in between games of the NCAA's.
2. Every team in your conference has you scouted completely, and it is even easier to scout out a team that is only playing 6 guys. We won't be surprising anyone.

Good catch. I've mentally blocked that one out.

That night we had our fantasy baseball draft. My buddies knew I would be a little late because of the game. Well, up 17 with about 10 minutes left I decided it was safe to leave my house. Listened in the car and heard the lead slipping away. Watched the last two minutes at his house and proceeded to have the worst fantasy baseball team I've ever had. I was sick to my stomach the entire draft.

It's good that you can mentally block that game out. Because for some reason, I have mentally kept it in the back of my mind and still can't believe UK came back.

Before Boston College this season, has a team(s) gone through the ACC regular season and ACCT without winning a single game? and if so how many other teams have gone without getting a single win in ACC/ACCT play in a single season?

They also didn't win an acc game in football. At least that is what I think the announcer said during the game. First time a team has ever done that. What a record to hold.

I know I definitely feel better if Duke wins the ACCT, but I wonder if there is any truth to the idea that winning the conf. tournament (ACC or otherwise) actually correlates to NCAA success. I feel like every year some team is super hot through the conference tournament and they lose early in the Big Dane. Recent examples include Iowa State (won Big 12 last year and lost 1st round I think) and Syracuse (after the crazy Big East tourney with the 5 OTs game) then everyone was hot on them and they flamed out in the first/second round. Probably better to win in the long run....since the team that wins usually just has more talent.

Good post!

I have thought about this too. For example if I had a choice between an Elite 8 run or win the ACC Tourney, I would go with the Elite 8 run. The tourney this year just doesn't feel as exciting to me as years past. Part of it is personal in that it's not in Greensboro and I can't go. But the other part is we are playing what feels like 6.5 guys and I would like to see them well rested before next week NCAA games. Trying to play 4 games in 4 days would take a toll on a team with no bench. But then again, these guys are 18-21 year olds so they would bounce back quickly.

When filling out a bracket I don't actually go through the past 10 games of each team, but I generally select final four teams that I feel are on a hot streak. 11 of the past 24 FF participants won their conference tournament. But, occasionally you do get teams that were on dry spells that find their way to the National Semifinals... UK in 2014, Michigan/Syracuse in 2013, VCU in 2011, and Michigan State in 2010.

2015:
Duke (9-1, lost in ACC Semi's)
Wisconsin (9-1, Won B1G)
Kentucky (10-0, Won SEC)
Mich State (7-3, lost in B1G Title Game)

2014:
UConn (7-3, lost in American Title Game)
Kentucky (5-5, lost in SEC Title Game)
Florida (10-0, Won SEC)
Wisconsin (8-2, lost in B1G Title Game)

2013:
Louisville (10-0, Won Big East)
Michigan (5-5, lost in B1G Quarterfinals)
Syracuse (5-5, lost in Big East Title Game)
Wichita St (7-3, lost in MVC Title Game)

2012:
Kentucky (9-1, lost in SEC Title Game)
Kansas (9-1, lost in Big 12 Title Game)
Louisville (6-4, Won Big East)
Ohio State (6-4, lost in B1G Title Game)

2011:
UConn (6-4, Won Big East)
Butler (9-1, Won Horizon)
Kentucky (8-2, Won SEC)
VCU (5-5, lost in Colonial Title Game)

2010:
Duke (9-1, Won ACC)
Butler (10-0, Won Horizon)
W.Virgina (8-2, Won Big East)
Mich State (5-5, lost in B1G Quarterfinals)

So 11 of the 24 won the conference tourney, 10 lost in the conference tournament final, 1 lost in the semifinals (us in 2015), and 2 lost in the Quarterfinals.

Interesting. Good work.

I think what it really tells us, though, is that often times the teams making it to the championship game in their conference tournament and the Final Four are just typically really good teams. That's kind of how I read it.

^^^This. These kids will have plenty of time to rest after the season. There have been times we went out of the ACCT early and still lost early in the NCAA. We were rusty because we had too much time off, or tired because of not enough time off. No excuses, go for what is in front of you, one game at a time, and just WIN BABY!!
It all comes down to matchups, bottom line. We need to do what these kids have done all season, and to the end, just Battle,Battle,Battle.
Go Duke!!

Yeah thats pretty good fact finding there. I wonder what the numbers look like in terms of teams winning then flaming out early. I think its always the case that good teams make it to the final four, just wondering about "hot" teams that fall early?

wow... i left my house to run to the store with about 12min and some change to go in the 2nd half thinking the game would continue as it had been. So i paused my tv. Needless to say thats not what i expected to come back to. wow.

Hopefully they can get hot during the tourney. We have the firepower..

Always want us to win but imo losing today will help us next week. This gives a solid week of rest.Seemed obvious that legs were not there in the second half.
