I'll say this about the game - then i'll go back to my 3A/4A home:
ACR is a much much better team than what the scoreboard showed against Brevard. Brevard was able to return the opening kickoff and had a few big pass plays (50/50 balls) and a trick play, but didn't have any possessions where they drove the field against ACR.
ACR defense is fast and physical. That wide 4-3 is a problem, they are built to stop the run at all costs and have good enough secondary play to make passing difficult.
ACR offense looked rough, but from what I could tell it was all QB play. He looked antsy and never settled. Made some bad reads in the run and in the pass. I look for those issues to be fixed by the time they come rolling down I-40 on Friday.
You never know what you'll get out of your kids week 1. But if ACR was "week 1 ready" (my interpretation of it) then that game against Brevard would most likely have been about a 1 score game in ACR favor...I'm thinking 24-17 or real close.
I'm looking forward to a hard fought game. I imagine ACR will have a bad taste in their mouth's and will look to avenge a Blue Devil loss with a Blue Devil beat down.
We look forward to seeing the Rockets for the first time. If you want to eat before the game in our area...you have numerous spots in Hickory area to eat (Sunny Side off 321 in Mountain View is great and won't take you off the path that far, especially if you enjoy some fried chicken livers, just ask
@Maiden Creek ). If you want a taste of Maiden, our homegrown spots are Brookwood and Don's Grill. Both will be packed. We also have two Mexican joints: 3 Hermanos (old KFC joint, they put a sombrero on the Colonel Sanders in the windows) and my go-to, MI CASA.
I'll be at the JV game Thursday night, see y'all then.
Drive safe down the mountain. Smoke Rolls at 7:30PM.
