He's an OSU alum, former star QB and former all-time passing leader (Currently 4th all-time at OSU. The other 9 QBs in the top 10 at OSU all played for Gundy). Gundy is responsible for 11 of OSU's 17 final top 25 rankings and 18 of their 34 bowl appearances (13 final top 25 rankings and 20 bowls if you count his years as a player). 18 straight bowl seasons until last year with a 12-6 record.

They finished 10-4 in 2023, ranked 16th. Had a top 10 finish in 2021.

But he was canned after one bad season last year and a poor start to this year.

Legendary former player. 18 straight bowl seasons, 11 top 25 finishes. And he was canned after a bad season and a bad start to this year. If anyone "deserved" more time, it's Gundy.

From 1986 until this season, he spent all but 5 years of his playing and coaching career at OSU. Mike Gundy IS Oklahoma State Football.

So, at OSU, being a legendary former player and the best head coach ever in the history of the program buys you one bad season and 3 games of the next season. Just throwing that out there for any random comparison you want to make.

It's almost like if Florida fired Spurrier.

Yeah but the real question is: Can we get him?

Is he the one who after a game yelled, "I am a man!!!"?

Overdue. My late grandfather graduated from OSU (back when it was Oklahoma A&M). Gundy was a qb there and a Cowboy for life but that doesn't guarantee you the head coaching job for life either. He'd done some great things for the program but they've been on the decline.

Just curious what constitutes a decline. After 19 of the best years in program history, there was one bad year and a bad start to this year.

If Beamer has a bad year this year after 4 years on the job, is that a decline worthy of firing? 19 straight very good years is a pretty large sample size to throw out the window on the basis of one bad year and 3 games. The conventional wisdom is that Beamer deserves to come back next year regardless of what happens this year. But Gundy's historic 20 year run at OSU only bought him basically one bad season.

Need to see that clip. I was not 40 when that happened. Now I'm past 40 and feel old. Man time flies.

Ok, call me crazy....Gundy is available. Our offense is a mess. We have bye week coming up next week.

We could use a midseason offensive analyst hire.
Unless Napier beats us to it.
All kidding aside Gundy would have to be beyond crazy to take an OC job at this point of the season and forgo his buyout.

Is that how his buyout is structured? Not sure I’ve ever heard of one where you forfeit the entire buyout if you get a job. Usually the amount of the buyout is offset by whatever you make at your new job.

Obviously, I know this isn’t happening for multiple reasons. One it would demonstrate that we’re serious and we aren’t. Also, it would mean a public admission from Shane that our staff is insufficient and he would never do that.

Why would we want a guy whose program had the bottom fall out? Dude just lost to Tulsa.
Anybody has got to be better than Beamer at this point. I'm sorry. I arrived at the decision after giving it a lot of thought after the Mizzou game.

Shane's gotta go. He ain't the guy.

Shane may need to go, but 40 is not the guy. He's lost it. For a point of reference, he got beat down 52-0 by Colorado last year and you know how some of you don't think Prime is a serious coach. Watched part of OK State's game with Oregon where they got bludgeoned 69-3. 40's program had turned into a sh*t-show and I had been saying that he needed to go on and resign to save face weeks ago. I guess the Tulsa debacle was when their fanbase had enough.

Gundy was fairly successful until the last 2 years or so. Change of scenery sometimes works. Gundy is 40. I bet Holtz wished he was 40 when he went 0-11 and in a couple years he was beating Alabama and Ohio St both twice. Gundy would not be my first choice however.

Yet I would wager he still knows more football than every coach on our staff combined x10. Shoot, I’d pay him to work remotely as an analyst

Further, Gundy's teams when they were successful were rarely physical. Typical Big 12 teams that passed the ball all over the place. Don't see his style working in the SEC. He could be sort of be like Mike Leach maybe and make things exciting in a 7-8 win season, but not a Coach I would bring to an SEC program if you really are trying to win.

I'd take him as an offensive analyst for the rest of the season. As I see it, our staff has a lot to learn about offense.
