I think it's safe to say that this year's roster has the potential to be one of the best teams we've seen at the school. However, there are still some questions surrounding the team. If you were able to add one player from a past Duke team to this roster, who would it be?

Shane Battier or Justise Winslow to help with the perimeter defense?

Laettner to ensure a winning mentality on the team?

I'm personally going with Tyus Jones. I just think that he's as pure of a point guard as there is which would make the talent on this team flourish. He also is as cold blooded of a player as I've seen which would make me feel great going into any close game late.

I want to say Kyrie just because of how fun this offense would be to watch. Downside would be that all the injuries would cause me to end up in a mental ward.

With that being said, I'd choose Tommy Amaker. I believe his leadership, passing, and defense would fit perfect on this team. Added bonus being that he would not need to attempt a single shot in a game all year. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't bother him either.

Gotta be a PG and your crazy for picking another position.

I'd go Kyrie if he could stay 100% healthy. Probably not willing to take the risk though, I'd play it safe with Jay Williams.

It seems what this years team is a pure pg. They are hard to come by. Ty Jones is a great choice but when it comes to a pure pg guard it's gotta be Hurley. OFC

While I almost choose Hurley myself, I think the one thing Amaker is better at is shutting down the opposing teams best guard. I think that is more valuable than what Hurley would add.

Hurley was overall better player and Im not ripping on his defense. I just think the main thing I'd want from a PG for this team would be defense/passing/floor leadership. In my opinion opinion amaker fits this teams talent better.

In your opinion what would Hurley bring to this team that Amaker wouldn't?

I would add our greatest natural talent ever - Grant Hill. But you say we need a point guard. I say, when Hurley was hurt, who took over the point? Grant. He was athletic to the point of making it look effortless. He could handle the ball smoothly in traffic, drive, rebound, play great defense. Think of the nightmare opposing point guards would have against a 6'8" athlete of the caliber of Grant. The one thing he lacked was a consistent outside shot, but we have plenty of that from our current players.

It's Tyus Jones! If our team now had Tyus as our point guard, we would have the only thing this team lacks. As great as I think this team will be, we would be close to unbeatable with Tyus still here!!!!!!

Forgot about Amaker, but I agree. I'd still take Tyus, but Amaker/Hurley/Duhon would be next in line.

Is it too late to reel in Kenny Williams? Nothing like a VCU decommit to complete a roster.

Probably more scoring when needed and a little more nastiness than Amaker had. I thought of Amaker but had to go with Hurley. Hurley was fearless. OFC

Just the last week I looked at some clips of J Will in college. I forgot how dominant he was at both ends. I'd have to go with him. I'd only be a little concerned about his foul shooting but on this team we'd never have close games so it wouldn't matter.

Count me firmly in the Hurley camp as well, and I truthfully can't see going any other way, even with as good as Jones was.

You need the great foul shooters when the game is on the line. A player could score 40 points in a close game but if he can't hit those crunch time free throws it hurts. OFC

I agree with you, but as crazy as it sounds, I thought adding more scoring/shooting would be more of a negative. Regardless I think this team goes undefeated if you add anyone that was mentioned in this thread.

It could very well be the perfect storm if it wasn't for an over opinionated Uncle that influenced Mr Thornton. I can't help but think he would be a really good fit for this team this year. JMO. Could be totally wrong

Completely agreed that Thornton may have been able to help take this team to another level which is scary to think about. He was a very good perimeter defender and with another year of improvement, could have been a true floor general. The problem though is that a locker room with this much talent could become a problem if not everyone buys in. I personally would rather have a slightly less talented roster, but one in which team chemistry should not be an issue.
