Syd Affolter has been named special assistant to Coach Jensen.
that should help Jan and help Syd’s resume both….. great opportunity for Syd
I guess. So what does that job entail, would be my question. Honestly these staffs have gotten way out of control, especially the mens. You look at the sideline for the guys and there's hardly room for the team to sit on the bench. looks like there are 10-12 assistants and staff. Ben has to be wondering how to even assign duties. He said earlier he was only allowed ONE assistant at NWMS......that should help Jan and help Syd’s resume both….. great opportunity for Syd
Looking at other places, everyone has a lot of staff. Especially now that many teams have a separate GM who sometimes isnt called an AC. Sean does both for Jan.I guess. edit; The mens staff lists 4 assistants and 7 staff members so 11 paid after the HC. The women's team now lists 6 assistants (counting Syd now)and five staff members so 11 paid plus Jan. Neither yet lists GA's at this point.

Not including GAs, South Carolina has Dawn plus 14 AC/staff. UConn has Geno plus 13. Rutgers has Gary Redus plus 15! UCLA has Cori plus 11. Even Nebraska who suck have Amy plus 10.
As Iowa wbb fans, we should he happy that Iowa is getting the same staffing needs met as other P4 programs.
Go Hawkeyes!
Okay, so my post really had nothing to do with IOWA specifically. Just a thought on how crazy this has become when you basically have 1+ staffer for every player. Thats all it was. I'm not upset that Iowa has the resources.Looking at other places, everyone has a lot of staff. Especially now that many teams have a separate GM who sometimes isnt called an AC. Probably like 10 interpreters on the staff with all the international players
yea….. I just assumed it’s a matter of keeping up with the competition…. I assumed the position is designed to have Syd help with daily administrative bulls!t and running practices….. film studying….. I’m not sure but I imagine there’s a lot of daily distractions she can handle to ease Jans loadI guess. So what does that job entail, would be my question. I don't believe it is considered an on the bench coaching position.Gosh, that means the women have 11 players and 12 coaches and staff members. Talk about "individual attention". That does not count players on the gray team!
I thought the biggest positive is it’ll help on Syd’s resume when she’s looking for a coaching job eventually
JJ seems power hungry. Will she be in charge of managing time outs?
(paraphrasing one of my 'favorite' posters...)
Interesting take. Not seeing anything to substantiate it but you do youJJ seems power hungry.
She was always responsible for post play. Likely the major reason Iowa has had to resort to the portal for effective guards. Feuerbach's problems another example.
Also would explain why Deal struggled coming out of high school.
I doubt she delegates responsibility.
And if Jensen didn't use the portal you'd be the first person complaining about it.Likely the major reason Iowa has had to resort to the portal for effective guards.
From the looks of it, I'm the only poster that can bring an objective POV to the discussion. And if Jensen didn't use the portal you'd be the first person complaining about it.
I thought you were taking a break from this board until the BIG10 started?
And every village needs it’s…….. ahhhh…… never mind….. too easyFrom the looks of it, I'm the only poster that can bring an objective POV to the discussion.
This place needs me.![]()
I would imagine That Iowa's would be just as large IF you included team managers, and the grey squad on the women's team. The 12 staffers I listed did not include those other support staff, which I think are included here. Iowa's only included the head trainer, and I'd bet this pic includes the training staff, managers, and who knows what else.
Another thread that Mitch turns into a Jan bashing thread.JJ seems power hungry.

That has to be several student managers, right?
Should I be praising JJ the way the 25/26 crashed and burned the last three games?Another thread that Mitch turns into a Jan bashing thread.
You should be using this thread to talk about Syd and her new position instead of steering it into the same fate as every other thread.Should I be praising JJ the way the 25/26 crashed and burned the last three games?

That is not what she is doing. Chad Leistikow posted an article about her this morning. She is taking Jenni Fitzgerald's old title. She helps manage recruit visits, helps the men's practice team understand opponent scouting reports, and works with perimeter players. It sounds like she will also be preparing some scouting reports this season. She is climbing the coaching ladder, and this is a great spot for her. Hopefully, she can stick around Iowa City for many years to come. Since her future husband is building a career in the area, I am guessing they would like it if she could stick with Iowa WBB for the foreseeable future. So she's a Gopher. Go for coffee, Go for This, Go for that.
Jan has won 50 games as head coach in her first two years. She has upgraded the staff. She has recruited nationally with success. The only thing left is to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament and truly compete with top-five teams. If that happens this year, what will you have to complain about?JJ seems power hungry.

And all the trainers. Yes, like I said if Iowa women added all the trainers and managers/grey squad it would look like that alsoThat has to be several student managers, right?
