Attorneys representing the Kentucky high school student involved in a confrontation that went viral on social media last month announced Tuesday that they were suing The Washington Post for $250 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

The lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Kentucky, accused The Post of practicing "a modern-day form of McCarthyism" by targeting Nicholas Sandmann and "using its vast financial resources to enter the bully pulpit by publishing a series of false and defamatory print and online articles ... to smear a young boy who was in its view an acceptable casualty in their war against the president."

Those in line (next up) after The Post certainly hope your right.
The amount you seek is irrelevant in court. The coyrt will determine if he should get telief and then the court will determine the amount.

Never a good idea for anyone to harass teenagers on a field trip, then make up a false narrative and air it, ...........particularly when there is contradictory video to the false and defamatory narrative the Post published. Have to believe the Post will want to settle out of court to avoid public embarrassment.

Have to believe the people filing this have zero desire to settle out of court. They want the spectacle.

Eh. Not sure if the amount you seek is "irrelevant". Especially if this is a federal case.

Hard to defend actions in court when much of the Left has already admitted to the errors of their actions after seeing the entire video. Better have some good attorneys, and or negotiators.

Wrong again. There are compensatory damages and there are punitive damages. You have to show evidence to support the compensatory damages. You can add on an amount for punitive damages. These damages are sometimes severely limited and vary from state to state.

Has anyone on here actually read the complaint? LOL.
Here are excerpts:
The Post ignored basic journalist standards because it wanted to advance its well-known and easily documented, biased agenda against President Donald J. Trump (“the President”) by impugning individuals perceived to be supporters of the President.
The Post’s campaign to target Nicholas in furtherance of its political agenda was carried out by using its vast financial resources to enter the bully pulpit by publishing a series of false and defamatory print and online articles which effectively provided a worldwide megaphone to Phillips and other anti-Trump individuals and entities to smear a young boy who was in its view an acceptable casualty in their war against the President.
Unlike the Post’s abuse of the profession of journalism, Plaintiffs do not bring this lawsuit to use the judicial system to further a political agenda. This lawsuit is brought against the Post to seek legal redress for its negligent, reckless, and malicious attacks on Nicholas which caused permanent damage to his life and reputation.
The Post wanted to lead the charge against this child because he was a pawn in its political war against its political adversary – a war so disconnected and beyond the comprehension of Nicholas that it might as well have been science fiction.
In order to fully compensate Nicholas for his damages and to punish, deter, and teach the Post a lesson it will never forget, this action seeks money damages in excess of Two Hundred and Fifty Million Dollars ($250,000,000.00) – the amount Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest person, paid in cash for the Post when his company, Nash Holdings, purchased the newspaper in 2013.

HAHAHAHA. This is a joke. These two lawyers did their client no favors in this complaint. They shot themselves in the feet.

So we have 1 prediction they won’t settle for more than they are asking for in their lawsuit. Really don’t want to go too far out on a limb on this one?

No settlement. Case dismissed.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/maga-teen-washington-post-lawsuit-dismissed-235322382.html

But in his ruling on Friday, U.S. District Judge William Bertelsman wrote that the lawsuit’s claims are “not supported by the plain language in the article.”

“The Court accepts Sandmann’s statement that, when he was standing motionless in the confrontation with Phillips, his intent was to calm the situation and not to impede or block anyone,” Bertelsman wrote.

The judge continued: “However, Phillips did not see it that way. He concluded that he was being ‘blocked’ and not allowed to ‘retreat.’ He passed these conclusions on to The Post. They may have been erroneous, but ... they are opinion protected by the First Amendment.”
