Bend is about as cool as it gets. Newberry National Volcanic Monument is way cool. Go early because it gets hot. Then head up to the Deschuettes for a hike along the falls. It should be pushing lots of water right now. Keep your dogs on leashes when hiking because it’s required and because rattlesnake bites are unpleasant.
The town itself is full of great microbreweries serving solid beers and righteous food. Also, lots of ethnic restaurants etc.
Take sun block, wear sun block, and know if you are staying in any of the neighborhoods, there is a noise ordinance in effect. ( not a big deal unless you have a dog that barks all night )
Bend and surrounding area are by far one of the coolest spots on earth. We also went hiking over at Smith Rock State Park which is a climbing area. Incredible. Again, go early and take lots of water.

Believe it or not, you beat me to this.
The tour around the lake on the open trolley is very cool.. but if you are a hiker, hiking down to the lake is outstanding
You’ve eaten at a breakfast restaurant in Rehoboth Beach or Dewey Beach?
Bend is the hip happening place. Very popular. Wife and kids just got back from Portland, Eugene, Crater Lake, Mt. Shasta and the great town of Weed, California. They had a great time.
