Not so long ago the winner of this game was the state champion. Both had a nice run and are working to come back. Two small town schools working to build back up with declining enrollments. The Red Dogs have been 8-4, 8-4 and 3-3 the last three seasons and the Blue Dogs have struggled. Hope to see both come back strong and win ball games and become 1A powers again.

I remember when these two schools used to be powerhouses.

Hopefully were coming back this decade. Kannapolis always one of the best teams we played out of conference. Surprised you guys don't have a ton of championships... unless I'm too young to remember them. Good luck to your season!

Coaches Tom Brown and Allen Brown were very good friends. Two very successful class acts. That always gave the games between the two a special flavor. Even some joint team pregame meals at times during the playoffs. Everything high school football should be.

Albemarle is extremely young and only got like 3 games in the spring...so I wouldn't put too much into the victory....a lot of points will be put up against them this season.

Rough start for AHS. Hope the kids keep their chins up and play hard the rest of the season. Off subject, I know, but the school is in very tough situation numbers-wise. Time to consolidate....

I agree. Thomasville still doesn’t have the numbers of players to be a real threat, even in 1A. They have some athletes, but no kicking game. Lot of mistakes in a game riddled with penalties. It will also be interesting in that four of their 10 opponents don’t have a jv team.
It’s still good to see the explosiveness they have at several positions. And for a program that hasn’t quite gotten over the hump in a while, good to see a decisive win. Believe me, nobody in the Chair City is measuring for rings. One game at a time, and we may be on the receiving end of a game like last night when we play Salisbury. Overall, I’m pleased with Coach Gillespie’s first real season.

Our field goal kicking still a problem... hope the coaches get someone from the soccer team. Saw some flashes on the old but still played sloppy, maybe its just first game jitters. MC will be a good test for us next week, hoping we get revenge from 18'. Not sure what Andrews will be like yet and surprisingly Forbush is good, so that will be another good test to see where we are till conference time.

Albemarle has several things going against them right now. The typical being young, having low numbers, not very big on the O/D lines and the other things that can make early success hard for a team to compete and win. But the what seemed to be (hundreds of penalty yards) appears to be a lack of discipline. They had several personal foul calls for cheap hits, talking trash and throwing helmets. It looked like they mostly quit once they got down 18-0. All the talent in the world is for nothing if the team cannot snap a football within a 40 second play clock multiple times. Hope the coach gets them right.

As for the Red Dogs. Good defensive effort forcing turnovers and moving the field position. They flew to the ball and played physical. The overall team speed showed against a pretty athletic team last night. The offense sputtered early but once they got going it was a good night with lots of big runs and scoring. The O/D line is big and will be an asset this year. A loss to Salisbury will not be the end all if that happens. Come playoff time the speed and talent on this team will make them a hard team to beat and they will make a good run. Just got to stay healthy and find a kicker!

Thomasville is hitting a cycle of talent, size and speed that they have not had since the early 2000's so things will continue to get better. The overall starting lineup is mostly 10/11 graders so things are looking good. The JV age kids went out and scored on the Albemarle kids also and made a defensive stop or two. BTW, the big QB that played late is a 10th grader built like a DE but runs like a LB. He is a strong runner and has a rocket arm. I could imagine him being at QB handing it off to #1, #5 and throwing it around to Moo Moo, Lucky, CJ, and the others. That would make the Dogs very hard to prepare for and stop.

It’s been over for Albemarle.. plus they’ve lost all their talent to NS…. Which I can’t blame the kids.

Stanly county has absolutely no growth and they still have 4 high schools lol. Pathetic.

Saw Albemarle lose to CC in the spring. Second worst team I’ve ever seen at Albemarle. It was just awful. Can’t imagine much has changed this fall.

They appeared to have some young athletes….just not enough of them. Some poor tackling techniques. Stanley County has not done right by Albemarle. The political indecision and uncertainty has been very unfair to those kids. And it’s gone on way too long.
Thomasville is a decent team, but also young. Hope they don’t let that win give them the big head. It can come crashing back to earth pretty quickly.
