Yeah, this is a recruit that to me screams transfer potential. It's one of the commits Duke takes early that is confusing. To me he doesn't seem like he is suited for physical big time college bball. Hope i'm wrong and hope he's a stud, but if we keep recruiting like we are, minutes will be tough.

I disagree with Alex being a kid who comes in then transfers. He's a much more athletic version of Luke. The kid can play. He needs to add strength and weight.

Hard to imagine a legacy transferring. I don't think the size thing will be as much of a limitation because he's not coming in expecting huge minutes right away anyway. He'all have some time to work with Coach Will before he's expected to be a major contributor.

They'll get him on a weight training and gaining program right away (probably already have). Kid is tall, skinny but athletic- we'll take it since he's just going into his Sr. year.

I hope he works out. I love a taller point guard, better vision and able to pull up over 6' PG's. That sure looks like a sweet stroke to me, and the handles look decent even though the video is not in game time situations.

In K I trust! :)

By the time he gets to Duke he will be 10lbs heavier which would put him around what Luke came in at (6-5/6-6 180ish). Once he's at Duke, Coach Will will take over.

Alex has a very good skill set. His ball handling is good and getting better. His competitiveness, his athletic abilities and shooting are very good.

I would not be shocked to see Alex' career follow in the footsteps of Grayson and Luke. This is not a player to be underestimated bc he's not rated in the top 20 of his class.

Two years into a college weight program will easily be 195-200 pounds

I like the kid. Got to let it play out to see what we got. I trust the staff so I'm not sweating the transfer stuff.

Well it's really hard to tell because all he did was drills but if our staff thinks he belongs at Duke I'm ready for him. OFC

Now we are talking about kids transferring before they even step foot on campus. Let's at least wait until the second game of his freshman season.

OFC
Is it too early to speculate on the reason for said transfer?

Lack of PT
K broke promise to "uncle"
Recruited over
K lied about how he was going to use him.

May as well go all out with the conspiracy theories now.

Completely forgot about the legacy aspect. Probably a marshall situation where if we miss or someone gets injured we have really solid depth player to fill in or maybe he develops and is really good? My point was his physical talent reminds me of a lot of players with hope that just don't cut it at duke for big time minutes, realize early on, then transfer. Solid at a lot of things, great at none, and D could be a weakness. But if he's willing to wait, develope, see where the chips fall, awesome.

Great point. I really hope we can stay away from the transfer talk this year. Just don't worry about it. Things always work out. OFC

I don't see a skinny kid, I see a guy that's still growing and working hard to retain guard skills. Those types are great to have for versatlilty. Ingram, Dunleavy, Tayshaun, etc. were all "too skinny" and not quite tall enough at one time in their development. It's their inner drive to maintain that jumpshot and ball skill that is so important. I see great potential here.

The staff did a great job by getting Alex. His coaches talk very highly of him as a skilled, athletic competitor

I don't see a comparison to Luke as much as a comparison to Singler. I don't ever want to discount what Singler did for our program while he was there, but I could see a kid like O'Connell having a similar 4 year impact and growing into an NBA player.

Love for you to be right but Singler was a top five recruit who was physically ready to play from day one

I agree with this. My fear is that he's a Marty Pocius type player. Probably a bit better skill, but not quite the athleticism

That's probably a closer comparison than Kyle. The difference may he health. Marty could never get healthy enough to practice regularly. He could have been very good at Duke.

When Marty was healthy, and could practice, he was a handful. Unfortunately he never really had his legs under him while at Duke.

Everyone has some basis for their opinions or connections that give info so with they said I can honestly say from what I have been told "told" Alex has the ability to contribute at Duke. It might take him a year to get stronger but there aren't any doubting his talent, abilities or potential. For whatever it's worth

Singler was just different. Tough as nails and loved the hard play. If he was a football player and about 6'3" and 230 pounds he would have been a linebacker. OFC

Just don't overlook Alex' contribution to the program. It might not be immediate because of the talent on the roster but he will get his chance.

Those 3-4 year players like Alex, Jeter, Javin and I'll even say Vrank will be that essential leadership needed to blend with AOD guys.

Lastly, if Matt Jones can carve out his role with his skill set then a player like Alex has the opportunity to find his role

Alex could be the player they thought Alex Murphy could have been.
