They had already been proven wrong when he breathed on his own for several days longer than they promised he would.

Yep. Doctors should be able to nail the prognosis of a disease of unknown origin. Diseases of known origin progress on an entirely predictable path with no variation among individuals.

For example, we know Stephen Hawking did not actually have ALS because he outlived his prognosis by decades. He got a talking wheelchair because he thought it was cool.

Still, it's interesting that in the entirety of this thread, that there is neither a single post providing an accurate description of Alfie's condition nor illuminating the actual conflict. The Left/Right sends it them through their ideological filter so that can fit it to their cosmic battle between good and evil. And in doing so, the actual important issue which ought to be discussed is missed entirely.
the ******* kid started breathing on his own . god works miracles unless your dumbass is too self righteous to allow it . ******* cowards

What does that have to do with the parents being prevented from exploring other options? You obviously don't understand the situation well enough to discuss it. Common problem among liberals.

Sigh...

I'll bite.

Healthcare is a good. A commodity. It is something to be exchanged in a market. When demand is high relative to supply prices will be high and quantity will be low. You can touch with the market all day by trying to make prices lower, but until you successfully increase supply you accomplish jack ****. Or maybe you have to figure out how to pump the brakes on demand, but to Hell with that, FREE and COPIOUS are birthrights when it comes to the time and efforts of other people.
The cost of healthcare has nothing to do with supply and demand

With all due respect, there is so much propaganda and dogma in this thread.

When you get older and need more healthcare you will likely take a different view.

Though I have almost never needed medical attention in my life, a few months ago I was taken to the emergency room of one of the top hospitals in Atlanta.

I was kept four days.

My bill was $50k+.

Though I gave the hospital my insurance credentials upon admittance, my insurance would not cover my costs because this hospital was "out of network."
I didn't think they could charge you out of network rates for an ER visit. As a matter of fact, I thought that was illegal. What are you supposed to do? Look for an in network provider during an emergency?

Our insurance said you can go to any ER but if you had to be admitted, then you will need to go to one in network.

Communism and socialism are both economic systems...
As I stated, there is a lot of overlap with the economy and government structure with most of the "-isms", but Communism and Socialism are still recognized as forms of government despite being tightly intertwined with the economy.

Wrong. The whole point isn't what the diagnosis was, or what were his chances of living. The point is that the socialist government, by force, disallowed the parents from making their own decision regarding their child's care. Maybe you don't have children. But if you do, and you're fine with having a bureaucracy make your children's health decisions for you, I feel for your kids.

Only in America.

Only country with a second amendment - government please take my guns.

Only country with a legitimate first amendment - government please limit what people can say. .

Please take over our healthcare.

Please take over our retirements.

But you better allow us to kill our kids up to and including 9 months.

Liberals. I'll never understand how some of you let those universities brain wash you do badly.
