Gotta find a place for him, but it’s hard to leave Jabari off too.

And Deng. Jesus we’ve had some players.
As good as Jabari and even Bagley were.. I feel like Jahlil being the center piece of a Championship team trumps them.. if Bagley was a lock down defender, to go with his offensive skills, I would say he HAS to be on the team..

I hate to say this because i hate them so much but UK’s All Calipari team is probably wiping the floor with anyone’s all century team. Just to show what a bunch of miserable underachievers they are

PG - Wall/Fox/Knight
SG - Booker/Bledsoe/Murray
SF - Randle/Monk
PF - Davis/Jones/Noel
C - KAT/Cousins/Cauley Stein
As far as NBA careers go, yeah UK wins, if we're talking college it's Duke by a mile.

This is tough:

PG: Jay Will/Scheyer/Tyus Stones
SG: JJ/Nolan/RJ
SF: Deng/Singler/Dunleavy
PF: Battier/Zion/Amile Jefferson
C: Landlord/Boozer/Mason Plumlee

This was tough. Because they're some guys who I just loved their motor at Duke but I couldn't put them on here. Guys like Daniel Ewing, Quinn Cook, Carrawell, Lance, Z, Sean, Gerald, etc. Jefferson made it because there has never been a kid I loved more defensively in a championship game than him. The defense he put up against Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker won us a championship in '15. It gets largely unnoticed outside the program and us fans. If we were doing an all time K lead Duke team I would go:

PG: Hurley/Tommy/Jay Will
SG: JJ/Johnny Dawkins/Nolan
SF: Hill/Deng/Singler
PF: Laettner/Battier/Zion
C: Landlord/Boozer/Brand

But, again, that one is tough. I mean, how can you leave off Danny Ferry, WOJO, David Henderson, Abdelnaby, etc. The fact is we've been beyond blessed as a fanbase through the years. Though you would think not reading some of the posts on this board over the last week. Anyway, fun thinking back to the years prior though.

You’re not wrong. That’s the beauty of being a Duke fan. The basketball we’ve gotten to watch is insane.

It’d be irrational for me to argue leaving Deng off of my list, I’ll give you that. Lack of 1’s and 5’s, I also agree. 3’s are higher quantity but a little lower quality. Don’t get me wrong - They’re great. Elite? Pushing it. Jay, JJ, Zion, Shelden all played (IMO) at a higher level. When I look at those names, it seems out of place to say the names you listed beside those guys.

Tatum was streaky, I put a higher value on consistency. He tended to hold onto the ball a lot too, which is a turn-off for a guy that’s a below average facilitator. Mediocre defender. (I can say a million brilliant things about him, just highlighting what I don’t like in justification for leaving him off.)

I get what you’re saying, but how many of those wings would have had “all-time” types of careers had they stayed a little longer. We’re debating the same point at this juncture. If our weakest position includes Deng or Redick or Shelden Williams, we’re pretty lucky.

Nope, I'd take several different Duke squads over them. Everyone talks about how bad of a shooting team Duke was this year and they look like sharp shooters compared to that Kentucky squad. That is an abysmal shooting team. They beat people with athleticism and rebounding. Duke could match them all day with several different make ups.

If we are dabbling into what-if scenarios in regards of OADs staying longer that is a whole new bag of tricks. Kyrie would give Jay a run for his money in the starting lineup and that’s only the beginning of a million different options on the All-Century team. I guess I tried to keep assumptions out of my lineup and stick to purely the best 2 at every position only judging by what they did wearing a Duke jersey.

That viewpoint puts just how lucky we are into perspective... Spoiled, lucky, blessed and everything synonymous with those words!

I think everyone in this thread kept it to what they did at Duke (outside of those that excluded Jason Williams). I know I did. Our discussion was more centered around what position has been K’s weakest. Just my opinion, it would start at the center, work to point and then move to the wings. We’ve complained about not having assets at every position accept wing during K’s tenure. That’s the part that forms my position. That’s all.

I couldn’t agree more, the quantity of wings is miles above every other other position. I would tie the 1 and 5 positions in terms of shortage. If we say TRUE 1 and TRUE 5, I think the 5 spot has been the most scarce.

True 1: Jay, Duhon, Doc, Paulus, Kyrie, Quinn, Thornton, Tyus, Jackson, Duval, Tre.

True 5: Boozer, Shelden, Zoubek, McRoberts, Plumlees, Jah

Maybe it’s a little more even than I thought.

Same. Especially when you actually write it out. And when I posted wings, I didn’t mention combo guards or “shooting guards.” K has a style, just like Roy and Bennett and everyone else. But when you add a special piece outside of your norm, you have the makings of a title caliber team.

Anyone that doesn’t have Jason as their starting Pg is letting his espn career affect their judgement or they were born after 2001.

PG: Jason Williams
SG: JJ (man i wish i could have seen them together, pause)
3: toughest position to call- i think I’ll go Deng but it’s tough between him and like 10 others including Kyle, RJ, Justise, Tatum, Brandon, etc
4. Shane
5. Jah, toss up between he and Sheldon.
