Young 4/5 for 8 pts and makes Harrar have to work hard on d gets limited minutes.

Audige goes 3/15 and just keeps chucking it

Collins is clueless

btw Young played less minutes than everyone except Greer. He also had 6 rebounds which I think was tied for high for NU in the game

Would love to hear Collins asked a question on this but maybe he will just slink away with no presser again

So bad it's unconscionable. Some of those shots in the past few minutes were just atrocious, with Young on the bench. Contrast that with PSU who had excellent shot selection after working the ball to find the open guy.

So true. Beran worthless but plays major minutes. Chase can't shoot but gets more attempts than anyone. Young plays great but gets minor minutes.

Penn State coach after game- told them we had to move the ball and work for better shots

Collins- just throw up anything and I’ll feed you more minutes

I’m officially on the Collins is a joke squad

Exactly this. Collins is a terrible coach and it’s 1000% self inflicted. Young is wasting away on the bench and Collins has no clue still.

Collins is not a terrible coach, but he certainly messed up tonight with playing Beran instead of Young. I presume he did it
because he wanted to play zone, but while it worked for a while, it eventually blew up in our face. PSU scored 45 in the second half! We should have just stuck with man and played Young.

At the end, down by 4, we had 4 guards on the court and get the steal. Defense/offense substitution and Beran is back in. To give his valuable contribution to a must score possession. Audige misses a 3.

I feel bad dumping on Beran so much. It’s not his fault. He’s perfectly fine to give 10 minutes of rest to someone.

I don’t know about what others saw, but I saw an offensive system that looked really darn good at the beginning of the game. We were running some different sets than usual. That’s not really bad coaching. Our offense was similarly mediocre each half because of our poor shooting. Defense, like it was in the first PSU game, was the problem.

Collins is also in charge of the d right? Other teams adjust. Good coaches adjust back.

Sorry but he’s got a pretty veteran team that he’s been able to “coach“ for several years and it’s not very impressive at all.

The help defense is maddening to me. We seem to be in some vortex where we can’t guard man-to-man so we help and then get burned on the kick out - all the time. I don’t get it. But I also see it as a quandary.

Ryan Young can’t get as few minutes as he does. It’s lost us games multiple times this year and did again tonight.

I agree. I mentioned Collins messed up big time tonight in this regard.
You can’t make multiple millions a year with brand new facilities and keep monumentally messing up like this. I know I’m ranting but it’s the same story every single time.

We have one of the most experienced teams in the B1G and won't even make the NIT. It has nothing to do with admissions these players are capable but they are not well utilized or coached.

Chase is a great defensive player but has no clue how to share or take advantage of an offensive situation and apparently Collins has no idea how to teach him.
Too bad, Chase could have grown into a great player if Collins had a clue how to teach him. NU has a very talented team that doesn't know how to carry out the strategy.

Lol that’s a tall order for the student paper or this fan site. Real media checked out when Collins went sub-.500 with the same roster than finally popped the Tourney cherry

Scoreboard. Scoreboard all season long. Scoreboard for most of his career at NU.

I did a 5 minute analysis of select games since Jan 26 (can't easily find entire season individual stats). In six games, covering 116 minutes of playing time, Beran had 15 points and 13 fouls. I don't blame him. That's like blaming the ventriloquist dummy.

I have plenty of game by game data, phatcat.
If you tell me what you want to know, I can look into it.
My data is organized around the performance of each lineup at every point in the game.
I can't break down who scored when, but I can tell you who contributed when.
In other words, if a guy got a rebound, a block or a steal or made a shot, he contributed. If he turned it over or missed a shot, he hurt the team.

I don't keep track of fouls because sometimes fouls are good.

Wrong again. Just when did Collins slink away from a press conference. When? Thought so.

Against Pete Nance, John Harrar had 13 defensive rebounds, 4 offensive rebounds, 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting plus free throws.
Nance had 9 points on 4 of 8 shooting, no free throws, 0 offensive rebounds, 3 defensive rebounds and one block.

Against Ryan Young, John Harrar had zero points on 0 for 1 shooting, 2 offensive rebounds and 1 defensive rebound.
Young had 4 points on 2 for 2 shooting, 3 defensive rebounds, 0 offensive rebounds and an assist.

It would be fair to say that Harrar annihilated Nance, but was outplayed by Young.

But what about all those wins with Nance at the 5? Oh wait... I fear we're going to lose Young to the portal next year. We'll get to see if Nicholson is a B1G caliber center i guess.

Both Nicholson and Young could hit the portal.
Nicholson's enthusiasm (on the bench) has gone from extremely enthusiastic to completely disinterested.

I'd estimate at least 75% of the Power 6 teams would take either of those guys.

You really believe that? It’s a major part of being a coach- reinforcing good play and setting repercussions for bad play/decisions. You think someone like Izzo would just watch a guy continue to take bad shots and say “oh well, what can I do?”

In fact as I recall in one of the post game pressers Izzo commented how Audige normally forces shots…
