That is why it's pointless to pick a favorite out of the bunch. You just never know what they are going to run into out in the wild. We can all say we're tough and would punch the bear in the face if it came near our tent, but in truth, most of us would have tapped just as fast after encountering a bear. I know i wouldn't last long on this type of show, but i'm also smarter by not even signing up for something i know i can't do. I don't understand why some of these people even want to waste their time by signing up. You know what you are getting yourself into. Unless you are a huge outdoor's type of person and spend most of your life in the wild, why even try? I would probably tap the first time i heard any wild animal noise at dark. This is a great show and very interesting to watch. I just wish more people would sign up that actually have a shot at winning the whole show.

Anyone change their mind on who might last the longest now that it's down to five and we have gotten a good look at who is left?

Jose or the woman. The preacher guy has really surprised me though, I thought he would be soft and tap early. The crazy guy, well, he's unpredictable.

Didn't get started until very end of last year, but have watched every episode this year. I picked Justin at the beginning. Really surprised by David, didn't think he would last a week.

Haven't watched last night's episode. Usually get up early on Saturday morning and watch.

Nicole is at the perfect place with her food source. Crazy how different it is at each location. Very interesting show to watch and see the human mind and spirit. I think if Mary Kate didn't get hurt, she would still be there.

I think the girl wins this one. As has already been said, she is in a very good spot for fish. The bears are nearby, but have been leaving her alone. She has a great amount of knowledge about plant life. Couple weeks ago showed her picking several different plants that were edible, several others that had medicinal properties, etc. She has a decent shelter. And she has a great attitude and mental outlook. I think she'll outlast 'em all.

I meant Nicole, last I saw Jose had to build a boat to the salmon run. Nicole is right next to a creek, hell man she was letting fish go.
Plus she has a good botanical knowledge and attitude so far. Helps when you are not hungry to have a positive attitude.

If the bears don't get her she will win. A botanist next to a salmon run. Hell, she is gaining weight.

I am surprised by David, too. He has the worst spot. Surf is too rough to put a net out. But he is mentally really strong and that more and more is what this is all about.

Damn those Canadian Bald Eagles.
American Bald eagles are patriotic and wouldn't steal.
These Canadian Bald eagles just swoop in and take your fish.

LOL. That was great.

Have no idea at this point who will win. Now that Nichole's salmon run is over she has fallen back to the pack in the calorie game. Anyone can win and also this could end quickly with maybe 2 people tapping within a few days of each other and the final tap shortly after that. They are already 4 people closing in on how long Alan lasted. Can't keep it up.

Nicole had the prime setup and location until the otters showed up. Cracks me up the wussie tapped out the first day due to hearing a bear, but that chick has been sharing a location with 4 of them and watches them as they roam and get their food.

My money is on the Spaniard or the ex-army dude....guy is batsh*# crazy lol.

Nicole is great but letting that huge fish go was one of the dumbest moves in the history of the show. Should have cleaned it and hung it up to dry somewhere safe. Now that the fish are gone she is already in trouble with food.

Fish doesn't keep in the wilderness and even when buried in the ground it will spoil within two days. She had a surplus and didn't waste meat...respect for the wild gets you a long way.

BS - nature is nature. It doesn't care one way or another. She should have either preserved the fish or eaten it.

Yeah, you're wrong. But other than that, great post.

Did she have all of the tools to dehydrate her meat and keep bacteria growth from happening?

They're saying she could've smoked the meat. Build a small fire and hang the fish above it in the smoke. Doesn't need to be hot enough to cook it, but the warmth will dry it quickly and the smoke will preserve it for as little as a few days to several weeks.

I agree about dehydrating the fish but given the climate, lots of rain and humidity, would the fish really preserve without developing mold at some point?

You guys need to let this go. She shouldn't have thrown the fish away, she should have cleaned it and hung it up to dry out. Worst case scenario is it spoils on her and she throws it away. That pretty much is it.

You can preserve fish simply by cleaning them and hanging them up. They do it around the world as a means of preservation without chemicals, additives, smoking it, or anything else. Matter of fact on all those shows in Alaska they are constantly catching fish with their fish wheels then cleaning them and hanging them up to dry on racks. Which is exactly what I posted above in the pictures.

I think Nicole cracks tonight.

Not liking the show as much now. It's not about survival as much as having contestents with issues with family.

The Nicole lady is full of crap. "Love for my children broke me and made me call it quits". Bull crap lady....you not being able to have the salmon fall in your lap anymore broke you lol.
That is exactly what I came here to post. Once the salmon dried up she was a goner. Made the biggest boneheaded move of this season by letting that huge salmon go instead of drying it.

I am really rooting for David now. He is such an underdog. He is thinking his way through this and he really needs the money as his life has been crap to this point in his own words.

That said, it's a calorie game now. Whoever eats will win. Those that don't will make excuses to quit. Larry is a real head case so who knows what he will do. Jose is solid but is starting to make excuses wanting his wife. I really hope David wins at this point.

I agree with all of this. The last 4 have proven that they have the survival skills. One of the earlier guys to leave had good skills (don't remember his name, but he built a kitchen, made games, etc...). It is now down to who wants to win. I originally picked David to tap out in the first week. He has surprised me, but he is the only one that has really talked about doing whatever it takes to win. At this point, the mindset of winning the challenge is huge.

Jose seems to be the most skilled, but he is sounding like he has accomplished everything. The money would not change his life that much. I am pulling for David.

All 4 of them made it as long as the season 1 winner Alan did (56 days). That is pretty amazing.

After seeing previous seasons contestants know more what to expect and how to handle situations after researching. If this thing goes to a season 4 or 5 I bet you see people sticking it out for longer and longer.

Yes. Good, decent man that used his intelligence and faith to get him through. I, myself, am not a religious person but I have to admit those of faith seem to be much stronger in the mental game in these things. 2nd time in a row a strong Christian has won it all.

Wow. What a great finale. I was good with any of the last three winning. Larry and David both surprised me.

Honestly believed the Spaniard would go the distance. Was watching the episode prior to the finale and told my wife, "It will take an accident to send Jose home" and sure enough the big dummy goes and flips his kayak. Glad that David won over Larry...that dude was crazy as a MF.

When they showed that I saw someone in a red vest seemingly hiding behind the camera, so I thought Larry was going to be the winner and that was his wife with them. Glad I was wrong.
