That practice line is overrated and overstated. I've never heard anyone in the NFL whine about losing practice time because a team didn't make the playoffs. Have you ever heard a basketball coach mention practice as a benefit for making the NCAAT. Or have you ever head Bill Self say "there goes our extra practice time" after another disappointing early exit? It's usually coach speak from football guys whose team has no business being in postseason play.

Basketball and football are a bit different when it comes to practice/coaching. And you can't compare it to the NFL. College practices time is limited by NCAA rules. In the NFL, they can practice as much as they want.

The NCAA got too greedy and formed too many bowls. I read where quite a few of the bowls lose money.

Has anyone ever went 5-8? We could set a record.

Thought for a second that Georgia Tech went 6-8 when they went to a bowl game with a losing record in 2012, but turns out they beat the USC Fightin' Kiffins in the Sun Bowl.

If they are worried about losing money they should just have one of the teams host the game. You are more likely going to fill up Commonwealth Stadium for a game against a MAC team (just throwing that out there for a really crappy bowl game) in a bowl over playing them at a neutral site in the boonies. Just offer like half the tickets to the MAC team for about a week and then the rest of the tickets can be bought by the home team. It is stupid for the low level bowls to be far away where the attendance will suffer. They can still have sponsors for each of the bowls.

You take the bowl no matter the record. If we re going another season with stoops we need the practices

This is a really bad comparison...NFL teams can practice a hell of a lot more than college teams and they aren't developing a roster of 85 scholarship players and walk ons. And giving 12 basketball players enough time during practice is a different universe than finding time to play 4 strings of football players.

however you slice it....the extra practice is another spring practice that yo either get or not if you make a bowl or don't. And the other consideration is the effect on recruiting. Never hurts to have practice over the december month to bring committed and still being recruited players to watch practice and hang out with the team as part of a visit to campus. Not to mention the additional game for recruits to watch to hopefully watch young players paint a good picture for the future. Any bowl and what comes with it definitely wouldn't hurt our chances of holding onto recruits and adding a few.

It could end up being stoops selling point to recruits. He can just tell them we're an improving program by saying "We made it to a bowl game so it's a step forward! Maybe next year with you here we can win one! Come be all in with us and let's win the toilet bowl"!

And he can also sell to the fans that we're an improving program evident by the bowl game we just attended but came up just short in......... Baby steps.............. Baby steps.

Update- 82 bowl spots.

71 teams with 6+ wins.

17 with fewer than 6 wins, and with fewer than 7 losses.

Chances are that close to 5 spots are going to open. Including current 4 and 7 teams that could potentially win their fifth game, that should place about 15 5 and 7 teams in the running for about 5 spots.

If they are really going to base it on APRs 5 and 7 probably makes us toast.

If, as I suspect, they will actually based it on $$$ (TV ratings and fan support that will translate to butts in seats), then UK is probably in good shape. Obviously, I hope that it become a moot issue after we get the win on Saturday.

And to follow up that - we have had quite a few guys who have had the light come on for them in the bowl practices...Stevie Johnson being one - and he was excellent the following year...starting with game 1.

So Stevie Johnson has a couple of weeks of bowl practices to thank for his success? Yeah, right.

These cities bid for bowl games, they get the revenue from fans coming to the game, so that is impossible for this year, and I have no idea how far ahead they are set

I figure there will be 2, maybe 3 5-7 teams in based on what happened yesterday and what's left on the schedule. The APR top 5 according to the NCAA's view literally apply to the top 5 schools, not the top 5 5-7 schools. All of the APR top 5 are bowl eligible already. No one has any clue how the extras will be chosen. UK doesn't have a good chance though. They need to win.

I double checked and I was wrong about 82 spots; it's actually 80. Which means that there should be 2-4 spots available. Obviously, if we can't beat UofLol, we don't deserve to go to a bowl, but then again, none of the other five win teams deserve to go, either.
