Hearing that yes. If they are looking to wear them in a situation where a win is likely they should have probably brought them out for NW. Unless maybe this is symbolism for turning the page, staring fresh ect ect...

Somebody was hyped enough coming off the bye to bring out the black unis! I'm with it. The second half of the season is a chance to right the ship.

Back in Black!!!!

Maybe the bye week will help everyone forget about the blackshirts of the Minnesota game.

It’s about timing. Fans pretty deflated after an *** kicking and losing energy for the team, so give them a little something extra to be excited about

Wow, maybe we can have a "black out" too! :p I love all the stuff we need to get motivated these days.

Alternates don't seem to work out well for NU. The first I can recall is the "Red Out" against OU in '86. The unis and the game result both sucked.

Yep. I guess I didn't recall it being called "red out". But know what you are saying. And yes I didn't like them at the time, and especially since we got killed, and everytime they bring alternative uniforms back it's like a beltch from a bad onion.

In fairness, the defense did pitch a shutout last week.

I like these alternates and am intrigued to see what they come up with for the road in the future.

Ha!

I editorialized on "Red Out." To my knowledge they didn't have a name for it. #5 NU was leading 17-7 after three quarters only to watch #3 OU score 13 unanswered to win 20-17. Jamelle Holieway and Keith Jackson were the culprits.

Clearly it was the fault of wearing our red pants at home. Smokin

Keith Jackson was money. That darn OU. The minute we had the wishbone broken, they would hit us down the middle to their tight end

Those aren’t Alternate’s.. Some of you need to get a clue!

Easy there, killer. I know they weren't alternates like we think of them today. They just wore the red road pants instead of the home whites. Everything else was the same. More of a one-time gimmick than a true alternate.

However, the all-red look did set a precedent in messing with the traditional uniform. In that sense, it was the predecessor to any "alternate" look that deviates from the standard.
