Today's Wall Street Journal (page A14) has an article on the Pacific Pro Football League which begins next summer in California. The league is designed for young men who don't qualify for college or who want to start making money sooner.

It's actually an intriguing idea.

Note - if you can't access the story and don't have a copy of today's paper, try news.google.com. and search for the league. You'll have a better chance of getting through.

These seem to pop up every year now. Major League Football was last year, and they've yet to start.

Love the idea of NCAA actually competing for athletes, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Fact is, the NFL Franchises would have to support any alternative endeavor financially, and despite concerns about draft preparedeness because of spread offenses and other issues, NCAA is a pretty good free development league for the NFL as is.

they stole my damn idea. I was just talking about this and laid the plan and the pay scale. This going to be huge. Now kids who actually want a degree will go to college. It will also, stop the juco feeders. 50k is good money for kids to play that know they have absolutely no need to be in or want to go to college. Well i guess i better get off my damn *** and start the midwest pro football league.
