I'm a big Folgueiras proponent for next season's squad. I think they really need him ideally. But I think your concerns are fair, and you were also quick in your analysis of why some of those defensive lapses might not be entirely on him. And, of course, Folgueiras had a double double in that game against AL and that video doesn't show all his plays (scores, rebounds, blocks etc.).
Absolutely agree -- I would love to have him on the roster and I think he could ultimately be a Carr-Williams hybrid with the combo of passing and perimeter shooting skills he brings to the table! I think Pope would maximize his skillset offensively, and a little different approach to guarding the PnR both individually and from a team concept would address some of his defensive issues. Pope is a smart guy and he has proven he is able to adjust his offensive and defensive approaches not only in-game, but also from game-to-game, and over the long haul of a season as well, which gives me confidence that he can put Alvarado in position to be successful on both ends of the court! Now, If Cal were still our coach, I'd be much more apprehensive b/c Big Z has similar limitations and Cal couldn't "coach him up" to improve in that area neither here nor at Arky!

Watching the Bama highlights he didn't seem to want to mix it up. Floated around on the perimeter offensively and definitely didn't try to stop anybody at the rim. I'm sure he could be better than those highlights showed but you better be ready to compete in the SEC and I did not see that from him.

I dont think he is a good fit in SEC

Goodman posted his visit schedule Iowa Providence and Villanova.

We must have backed off then. Because none of those 3 schools can touch us in terms of $, exposure, or championship potential. Those are 3 CHUMP schools (yes I know Nova is not a chump historically, but they are dead since Jay Wright left and their NIL is severely lacking). Dude doesn’t think very highly of himself if those are the players in his recruitment!

I think he would have given us something we need (shooting and playmaking at the 4), but I’m not surprised by this. With Quaintance, Moreno, and Dioubate officially signed and Garrison apparently now staying, we just don’t really have the minutes to offer another frontcourt player.

Seems like a promise has been made to Garrison in the last 24hrs. 🙄
Looks that way. I think he is looking at Williams as well as someone that he play as a stretch 4 in a pinch, esp with JQ. I think we get one more perimeter scorer and that will be it.

Pope just doesn't look like someone that makes promises look at the Lewis situation he didn't get his promise so now he's looking elsewhere.
Which is exactly why I’m afraid he went into damage control mode with BG. Garrison sure looked like he was leaving a day or so ago.

Finally, a devil's advocate on Folgueiras. Yes, he's skilled but does that translate against an athletic and physical SEC?

I've changed course after watching film. Metrics mean jack squat when your playing limited competition. (Yes, I watched him against Bama but that's a small sample size) Just color me skeptical.

I think Garrison can be replaced, but personally I hope he stays and develops under Pope's tutelage.
I see some weaknesses in Folgers game and see some of the same frustrations we had with big Z and that he is a little slow on defense pretty easy to get around and he's got no springs underneath him. I do like his outside shot though looks like he can do 40 or above from Deep

Good point. It wouldn't have been a good look for Lewis to decommit and BG turning around and tranferring, too.

He’s more like Z’s brother imo but better as a post player

Personally, I don't think he made any. If we could have stayed injury free, I truly think we were a legitimate national championship contender.
I don’t think he made any, either. I am not sure if we were final four good, but he put together a challenger in a short amount of time with limited choices. You have to trust him and his staff in this process.

Alvaro has skills for a bit Pope loves. So, we being out on him must mean Garrison is solid. That would be good news.
