Am I the only one that still thinks UK can be a top five team even without Lowe?

Let’s see tomorrow. A loss and we won’t be sniffing the top 5 this year. We may be able to look like a top 5 team but the bottomline is wins and losses in November basically set the level you’re starting from.

A loss to msu and we will fall out of the top 20. It’s like starting the game down 10. It’s hard to comeback from that and win. This has been a major problem for our program since 2015. Having older players is supposed to equate to a head start. Tomorrow is must win if you want to have a shot at top 5. It’s not about Lowe it’s about winning. Aberdeen is fine to run the team but we have to prove it. You lose that top player and win then it’s no question. Drop tomorrow and lose a key player that will be held against us all season unless we win. I feel that game tomorrow is imperative if you wanna sniff a top 5 sans Lowe.
I'm confident about MSU and I can't wait for it!

You guys have NO IDEA what kind of defender or offensive player, for that matter, Lowe would have been for us . He played 12 minutes in one game and about 18 in another obviously injured and in pain. He was grimacing and holding his arm for most of UL game. He might suck on D but basing that assumption on the little sample size we had is ridiculous.

Well maybe if he heals up we can get a bigger sample size. Until then

I base it off his 2 seasons at Pitt. It's always been his issue.

I'm sorry for Lowe's injury...he seems like a good dude and teammate. We are dangerously thin at guard but should be OK barring another injury.

I never understood the hype some people on this board had for him based upon his Pitt stats. He's a good solid player at this level, but it's not like he's the second coming. We also have 5 guys in the 6-4/6-5 range which seems to dictate more of a small ball approach. On the positive side of the ledger is we've got some good shooters from three, excepting maybe Oweh. I also think Williams is better than he's shown.

A Final Four run will depend upon Jayden's return and Jasper and Moreno's accelerated development. Both of those Freshmen are terrific prospects and should be a handful by the second half of the SEC slate. Absent that, we look like a 4-6 seed type of squad. It should be an interesting team to watch.

Yes it’s just you. This team has too many holes with Oweh playing like he is and not having an elite shooter. Even with Lowe it wasn’t looking top 5.
Tomorrow will tell me if we have the grit to push past a pretty good team in the regular season.
We have talent. I'm for letting these guys gel before I throw the baby out with the bath water.
I think we will beat Michigan State and look much better than we have in the last few games. Lowe or no Lowe.

So Lowe is not out for sure? I have no clue what’s going on honestly. He don’t know if he wants to have surgery or not? That’s pretty serious so it’s crazy to me to think he might play tomorrow.

If we went off of stats then we would all love wheeler. They don’t always tell the whole story. Wheeler was considered one of the best pgs in the sec. Pretty sure he was like the assist leader two or three years in a roll.

I’m not impressed with him if I’m gonna go off of his pitt resume. Even tho I’ve only seen minimum highlights. If he’s better than I give him credit for then we should be perfectly fine.

Wheeler in 2022 was pretty good, 2023 not so much. 100% get what you’re saying and I agree

I think he should be done. Even if he plays it’s going to be up and down like Butler and never 100% and others don’t get to develop.

This has all the makings of a very good team with or without Lowe.

If there’s any question about him then sit him and move forward.

Let everyone get used to playing with Aberdeen at the point.

If Lowe gets well he can back him up.

Wheeler did lead the SEC in assists 2 or 3 seasons.

Same years he led the SEC in turnovers too.

Then he couldn’t guard or shoot to boot.

Yea I actually never minded him to much until he did the sulking thing at the end.

if he would have just ran the offense and not did the drive in get blocked stuff I thought he was ok. If you have stars in other positions you don’t need your pg to be MJ#23. Best example I can give you is Marquis Teague. Never did anything special just did his job and allowed everyone else to do theirs. Brought us number 8 being a very basic pg.

If Teague would have went somewhere else he probably would of had the green light to do anything but here he was like option five or sixz

Can we be? Maybe. Do I think it’s likely? Sadly, not really.

It’s not even so much that I think Lowe is irreplaceably good in a vacuum, but this roster is extremely thin on playmaking without him. You can somewhat compensate for not having a traditional point guard by running an unorthodox system, but you have to have at least one facilitator to run just about any kind of set, and I don’t see anyone comparable to Amari Williams on this roster to play point center right now either. Maybe Johnson can harness his physical talent into becoming a second facilitator behind Aberdeen before the end of the season, but he still seems a long way off at the moment. If he doesn’t, I think our offensive droughts when Aberdeen rests or gets in foul trouble could frustrate us a lot over the course of the season and probably hold us back from being top 5.

The PG situation has likely cost us any hope of being a title team this year, or likely going to the FF. Lowe being injury prone, therefore unreliable in addition to that ugly brick he tossed up on the front end of that 1 and 1 to kill any chance we had at a comeback tells me all I need to know. He’s simply not the guy.

This is an EE type team, and that alone depends very much on JQ returning strong and Aberdeen running the point and doing it well.

I would LOVE to be wrong about this, but I’m probably not. Tonight’s Michigan State game and how Kentucky responds (no letdown if it’s a win) will tell us a lot. I’d love to eat some crow regarding this Kentucky team.
