When you need new batteries $50+k.
So basically every 6 - 8 years your car has no resale value
Which means it has become worthless.
I don't think even 'cars for kids' or a junk yard will take it off your hands.

If no one will take it, that means you are stuck with it.

So for all you Utopians

That’s good to know. I just got a new roof without solar. Maybe I didn’t miss the boat after all.
That’s only for systems that are independent of the grid. Solar systems themselves are good for 25 years or more

I am no expert but if you do not have a energy storage system you have no way of banking the electricity you have, so if there is a power outage and you have no storage system you have no electricity.

Educate me Puds...what does independent of the grid mean?....My neighbor bought years ago a system on the cheap and he doesnt pay a penny to SCE. The rules have changed since then its not so affordable anymore.

The grid/system now requires most people to send their electric power generated into the main grid and then it’s returned. Don’t ask me why. I believe, from what I was told, battery charging can only occur while the grid is up, so if you use up your stored power and the grid is down, they won’t recharge until power is restored.

If I was going to get any type of backup system it would be a solar powered generator. More economical and not grid reliant.

I've seen those solar generators in ads on TV....they start around $1200

Good ones are more, but reasonable compared to battery backup systems..

Surprise‼️ a dealership says their battery is the newest bestest..!!

Then you find out if you read the article that those numbers are projections not actual results.

“In fact, through its Salzgitter, Germany’s, battery company PowerCo., VW has completed well over 1,000 charging cycles of the QuantumScape battery cell, which corresponds to a total of more than 31,000 miles for a typical EV or even much more than the average life of a vehicle..”

Pardon my skepticism on anything you post as a fact. But sales brochures are hardly scientific, and rarely factual. Much like you yourself.

It’s not a Volkswagen battery. They were testing a battery by quantum scape.

Sorta like bragging about a new vw with parts from a new contractor? Did you read the article? It was just a projection based on 31,000 miles worth of charging. It’s tantamount to saying this car made it 100,000 miles, so we know it’ll last 1 million. It just doesn’t work.

Just a bit of a tangent.
Bought my g/f a VW in 2014 after her Toyota was totaled by a drunk driver.
Her driver side headlamp burned out so as a useful tool trying to be a man, I thought this would be an easy task. A few youtube videos later and after removing a few supports and pulling the battery I was able to complete in two hours what should be a simple 5 minute job.
I will never buy another VW product.

I just read that if the battery goes completely dead, you cannot charge it. You must get the car towed to the service center.
That seems like a rather significant issue.
