I did the 23 and Me health and ancestry last year. Very interesting information and I want to try another service to compare.

Did ancestry.com

Didn't learn anything I did know except that I am almost purebred. Came back 95% British, 2% Irish and 3% other.

The rest was a whole lot of vagueness about how my people got here.

The neat part was all of the matched I got of known relatives who have also taken the test.

No way. I’m not willingly giving anyone my DNA.

Not that I’m worried about being caught for murders or serial killings but the way they caught the Golden State Killer was through these DNA sites. My graduate work was in this field so I have a slight understanding of it. This technology is amazing and scares the crap out of me. They are just scraping the surface. Where does it stop?

Say they find some rare blood type or gene or immunity or something crazy and the government/big pharmaceutical needs test subjects/samples and they track you down this way. Are you cool with that? I’m not big on conspiracy theories and all that but this particular thing worries me. There is still so much unknown. Facebook shares your data. What is stopping these guys from sharing your genetic code?

My sister did it. I think it is horseshit and here is why. Our grandmother is 50% Cherokee. So dad is 25% and we, the kids are a minimum 12.5%. Her DNA tests showed 0% Indian. Basically said she is Scottish, Irish and German.

Reported. You should be off the Cherokee roll by 2019.

Also, Congrats on all the little Megapokes that will come and find you.

The dna comes from your mom. Read up on it a bit, before you twist off.

Mitochondrial DNA is from the mother. They analyze the autosomal DNA which is both sides.

My wife is 12.5% Mexican from her great grandmother on her fathers side. She came up 7% Iberian and 5% Native American as expected.

Most likely you are so diluted there is no Cherokee left. It is common for people’s paper blood percentage to be higher than it should.

There’s no Y chromosome to type for his sister. That’s my point.
