And so it begins. Russia orders US aircraft out of Syria

I know many conservative posters on this board disagree, but we are making an enormous mistake. Russia is teaming up with Iran to boost Assad. Assad will survive and remain Iran's puppet. Russia and Iran will own Syria. What happens next?

ISIS will retreat into Iraq, imo, as Assad regains control. Russia and Iran will team up in Iraq to defeat ISIS. Russia recently inked an agreement with Iran, Syria, and Iraq to share intelligence against ISIS. Iran's goal is to reestablish the Persian Empire and Syria and Iraq would be great starting points. Iran is fomenting trouble in Yemen. Their plan is coming together and nukes will make it even easier.

Leading from behind isn't a strategy, it's capitulation.

The American outrage at the prospect of not having the blood of our soldiers running in the streets of some Middle Eastern city is deafening (not). Maybe we get to sit (as far as ground troops) this one out for a change. Let the Russians give ISIS a beatdown, good for them. Obviously the Russians are desperate for some positive international attention and hoped for respect. Persian Empire? lol an empire of sand, no country there will ever be an economic power from making anything or providing a service. All they have is oil there and we could probably meet our needs without a drop from OPEC and as long as the price of oil stays low, no one is getting richer there (the Saudis are running a deficit). Any Iranian nukes will have to wait 15 years or so, if ever. If they ever get close, someone (U.S. or Israel?) will probably rain some bombs on that bomb building party and besides what will Iran do with a nuke bomb or two? Nations with nuke stockpiles have been acting tough (or not) towards each other for decades. Go jack off to your newest Putin poster.

You're lack of insight and knowledge is breathtaking.

Your strategic understanding of the global economy, international policy, and how the Middle East operates is frighteningly poor.

With that said, I'm still in agreement that we stay out of Syria.

Syria is a quagmire but we are already in Syria at least to a small degree. We have huge national security interests at stake in the Middle East and we are sitting on the sidelines letting Russia and Iran take the lead. Where Russia and Iran want to go is not where we want to go. Our interests and their interests do not intersect. We will rue the day we let this happen and it will inevitably lead to much greater conflict and death not to mention economic instability.

I give yours and WVPATX's criticisms equal weight, zero.
You don't need to take my posts with anything more than a grain of sand. However, it is abundantly clear to anyone who has been in or studied the Middle East that you have a very poor understanding of it.

Fortunately though we have talented people like yourself who are experts on international policy, the global economy and the Middle East bringing your talents to the OTB to keep us straight. [eyeroll]

Those who you speak of are very frustrated with the President right now.

When the Russians walk in and dictate terms to the US in the Middle East and the other countries look around and say, are you going to take this insult? They know that we are being led by a very weak leader and can't depend on us.

Russia whips ISIS who gives up and quits fighting then Russia takes over the Middle East and kicks sand in our face before the next election...hey, it could happen.

Today a Russian general walked into our embassy in Iraq and told us to not fly into Syria. THEY TOLD US! We are being lead by a child.

Obama said no. Then he apologized and said ok.
