Probably more kids participating who ignore their handicap than anyone realizes. One of the locals covers it one time a year and never follow up to see what they accomplished.
Hartsville had a kid in about the same shape who played nose tackle for a good 4-A program. I questioned the coach about playing the kid in such a rugged conference. I was told he earned the spot. He had limited range, but great strength and he was so low that no one could get low enough to move him. No team ran the middle on them the whole year. Absolutely unbelievable what can be accomplished with heart and desire.
I talked to the other coach in the county about the handicapped kid. He told me if he had 11 with that kind of heart he could win state in any division.
