Who's still left among the real long-termers besides CVS? Does UNC still have the same coach, the one who is just ahead of CVS in all-time wins or has she retired? DePaul's coach, whose classy behavior I still recall from being at CVS's 800th win, has certainly been there a long time. Anyone else?

A surprising number of active coaches have been around since the AIAW days. (Some of that has to do with being able to get a head coaching job when they were in their 20s, which is very unusual today.) I took a quick look at the Wikipedia list of 600+ win coaches and the active coaches who started prior to 1983 included CVS, Tara Van derVeer, Jim Foster, Sylvia Hatchell (the UNC coach) and Harry Perretta.

Doug Bruno is a funny case - he coached DePaul from 1978-79, then came back in 1989. He actually left to coach in the first women's professional league in the U.S., which didn't last too long, and then was an assistant at Loyola Chicago for a while before returning to DePaul. (All this according to Wikipedia, FWIW.)

I believe she's retired. She ended up at Seton Hill, a D-III program.

On several occasions I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Andy. A real class guy who ran a clean program.

When visiting the campus the two things that really caught my attention was the hugh Academic Support Center established for all sports. .

When it comes to tenure, Harry Perretta is the king of women's college basketball. He was only 22 years old when he became the Villanova head coach in 1978. It's hard to believe he was already in his fourth year at the Wildcats helm when Rutgers beat them in the AIAW Final Four in Philly in 1982. For those who remember, after beating Nova, RU beat Texas in the title game...
