Doesn't excuse the consistently BAD officiating that Angel brings to every match.

Dude should be reffing middle school tournaments, not D1.

But he would retire before that, because he wouldn't have all the cameras on him at that level

Having been to many middle school and high school tournaments this year, he would fit right in. Some of the referees at these meets are beyond awful and it scares me for the future of the sport if this is what reffing is going to become. Awful as in, "Full nelson is legal this year as long as you don't touch your fingers together," awful.....

My granddaughter got whistled for a Full-Nelson when she had ahold of the other girl's wrist.

Yes, and it never has been.
And trust me,.most officials are continuing to call it like they have for the past 30 yrs as opposed to how they decided they wanted jt implemented a few yrs ago

My original comment about a referee saying a full nelson was legal until the fingers touched still stands and is an example of how bad some officials are. Not all of them, but there are some that should not be on the mat and it seems to be happening more often as of the last couple years.

There is a definitely a shortage of officials in iowa.

And middle school is has a hard time finding officials because (1) their start times rule out a lot of officials and (2) most quality officials are busy doing hs.........its no different for most other ms sports.

Agreed. Hopefully you didn't take what I said as a shot at all officials, because there are some good ones.

Nope. I officiate,.coach and spectate and there are plenty of guys that shouldnt be officiating above middle school or jv level but unfortunately are working hs varsity quite regularly.

Three problems: a lot of officials are getting up there in age and we arent back filling them. Some of the better officials are getting more into college levels and doing less hs. And with girls wrestling expanding, we have doubled the dates/events but havent added much for number of officials
