Virginia will play North Carolina State in Rio de Janeiro, and this will be first college football game played in Brasil. Texas Christian will play North Carolina in Dublin. Both games will be played on week zero of college football season.

At least the TCU/UNC game is an out-of-conference game at a neutral site.

But for UVA and NC State to move their game to South Freaking America, one of those teams had to give up a conference home game. Ludicrous. How are the home team fans not livid about this?

That's my thing. You're taking away an opportunity for the actual fans of the programs to see their teams play so that people in a country who don't give a hoot about college football can see them play.

I hate the NFL games in Brazil, London, Germany, Mexico and I hate the NCAA’s attempt to be the NFL by going to Dublin & now Brazil.

Regular season college football games belong in campuses. I know OU-UT & UGA-UF, among others, have an annual neutral site game. It’s a shame those teams never step foot in their rival’s stadium.

speaking of which, huge missed oportunity for UGA and UF to have a home and home with the stadium in Jacksonville being renovated.

With England and Germany it is a chance for U.S. service members that are stationed or deployed in that region an opportunity to go to the game.

At least in the case of the NFL, they are priming their foreign markets since there is a good chance they may expand internationally in the next decade or so. But I don't see any upside for the college teams other than the money ESPN is giving them to play a game in week zero. There's no way I would give up a home game for that, though.

I believe the UEFA will do everything possible to block an NFL franchise in Europa.

Also I think the minimum flight time across the Atlantic is six hours (assuming that the franchise team is put in the AFC North, AFC East, NFC East or NFC South division) and I think it would be hard for a European team that would have to cross the ocean eight or nine times a season to be mentally or physically fit. To me this would be like Hawaii joining the Sun Belt Conference.

To me this would be like Hawaii joining the Sun Belt Conference.

All true. Be that as it may, NFL gonna do what the NFL decides to do. At least the NFL players don't have to go to class on Monday.

The travel burden would be lessened significantly if they go big once they go. Install 8 new teams, creating a new 4-team division in both the AFC and NFC. They play everybody in their division twice, and all of their inter-conference games are against the other Euro division teams. That's 10 games out of their 17-game regular season that take place in Europe. Of the remaining 7 games, only 3-4 of them would be road games in the US.

The 2025 NC State vs. Virginia was an out of conference game. Perhaps the 2025 game is, too.

Correct, last season was scheduled as out of conference and this season was supposed to be out of conference, however the ACC is doing something odd this upcoming football season where some teams are playing a nine conference game schedule and some teams are playing an eight conference game schedule. This game in Brasil counts as a conference game.

IMO, depends on how much money ESPN is offering.
