Turned a ckose game vs. Missou into a 16- pt loss, which has been a pattern for them. Frazier scored 28, but unfortunately the rest of the team only scored 35...

Probabaly could have used some of those former Illinois players who now play for the Tigers..

Now 4-8. Probably looking at more transfers out...

This is great recruiting news for Illinois. More losses = more transfers will improve their recruiting pitch that new players will get playing time as freshman.

Ignore the chaos and losing this year, its all upside in the future. It will also save money as the recruiting pitch is already developed for the football team.

And in two years the AD can use the pitch in recruiting a new head football and basketball coaching staff

Mr. All Everything Ayo Dosunmu thoroughly outplayed by Mizzou reserve PG Xavier Pinson a 3 star from Simeon.

It’s only fun to mock them when we’re winning. Last season was a total waste.

Agreed, though I will say that thr two fouls on Ayo like 2 minutes into the game had a bit to do with that, imo Ayo does look like a kid among men out there a lot, though; probably because he is...

Getting baited into a technical foul for his second foul was pretty cool.

Refresh my memory —
I know Groce was , like, Illinois’ fifth choice. (Shaka Smart - in Champaign! Ha!!!)

Was there a similar string of disinterest with Underwood?

Don't be a jerk. Adolph Rupp rose from the dead to fight Dean Smith and most members of the Hall of Fame for the job.

Fun fact from the BIG show; worst loss az measured by KenPom for the lolIllini in 8 years!
Starting to make sense why Underwood is not out recruiting. Must be tough to sit in the stands at HS games wearing a paper bag over your head.

Illinois held FAU scoreless for 15 consecutive possessions over a 7-minute stretch spanning the halves, and only scored 5 points!

Some results today: Princeton 67, No. 17 Arizona State 66; Western Kentucky 83, No. 15 Wisconsin 76 (Western scored 53 in the second half); Gardner-Webb 73, Wake Forest 69; Kansas State (10-2 record so far) 59, George Mason (.500 coming into the game) 58.

Moral of the story — You'd better not take anyone lightly in college ball these days. Illinois is fully capable of going belly up against FAU on one night and giving a good Gonzaga team all they wanted on another night. Cats better bring it against them, because they're one of the few relatively weak sisters in the B1G so far this season.

Should add that my Division II alma mater nearly managed to fritter away a 15-point lead in the final six minutes today.

And the Wake game was not even much of an upset: Wake is terrible. And I doubt the lolIllini were looking past anyone at 4-8.
I have a feeling this will be Danny Manning's last season. He has talent but his teams underachieve. Attendance is terrible, even worse than NU in a town that loves college hoops.

I'll just put it out there....when Illinois hired this AD I thought he may turn out to be a gem....I thought Lovey would be better than he's been, not great but solid....I thought Underwood would be much, much better by this year.

On Underwood, I read that guys on the team aren't having fun. If that was the case at NU, they'd still be getting an NU degree and set for life. At U of I, it means they've got nothing going on in CU. The fear there is he's chasing guys away.

It's not a schadefreude thing for me....I just thought it would be a lot different.

And, yes, NU are the two games every player on U of I has circled. So look for U of I to play balls out every second.

You can say Wake is terrible all you want. Gardner-Webb beating an ACC team is a big deal. Would you be thrilled if Northwestern lost to Gardner-Webb? Where did I say Illinois was looking past anyone?

It's not just my saying that Wake Forest is terrible, Sagarin (#153, a full 46 spots worse than a terrible Illinois team) and KenPom (#158) say it as well.

Wake already lost to Houston Baptist (Sagarin #284), and Richmond (#191) this year, so losing to Gardner-Webb (#177) should not have come as a surprise to you at all. And yes, I would have not been thrilled if we lost to Gardiner-Webb, because our Sagarin is 53 and thus it would have been far more of an upset than Wake losing.

And you posted this in a thread that was talking about Illinois loss; if I incorrectly inferred that you were thinking that Illinois was looking past Florida Atlantic, I apologize.

If we are going to LOL at Illinois, then we had better beat them this year. If they beat us, what are you going to say then?

I won't care if we do well the rest of our games and I will still lol at them since they will still be terrible. As another poster pointed out, they gear up for our game like its the Super Bowl of basketball.. But looking at 4-10 in the face by the time they face us, I am hoping that they will have quit on BU, if they have not already, and it will be a moot point.

I've been to 5 Wake home games this year, and you are correct: the Deacs are bad. Real bad. They have a First Year 5* forward, Jaylen Hoard, who is very good, and a decent point guard in Childress, but the rest of the team is meh. And they just don't play well together. Danny Manning is the anti-CCC, he plays everyone and rotates guys constantly in and out, which might explain their lack of continuity. I will be shocked if they don't finish dead last in the ACC this season.

We are a literal embarrassment, this much is beyond dispute. If I were a fan of another B1G school, I’d be LOLing at Illinois all day long.

However, you guys are engaging in a bit of strange logic thinking playing Northwestern (as opposed to ranked historical rivals like Indiana and Iowa, much less teams like Michigan and MSU) is some type of “super bowl,” LOL. All we had going for us at this point was the winning streak in our biggest rivalry game vs. Missouri, and that’s gone. Season over!

Think you'll fire your coach? Alford just got canned today with a better record...

Do I? No. What’s sad is I actually think Whitman is a very promising AD who made two extremely unlucky hires that literally no one could have predicted would be this bad ... considering the amazing work he’s done with fundraising and whatnot, I think it’d be a real shame if we ran him off because of his hires failures, but I really wouldn’t put it past us. I think it’d be wise to let him try again with both sports.

SHOULD we? Absolutely. Start over ASAP.

On Underwood, I read that guys on the team aren't having fun.

The WOTS is that Underwood is a huge hard-***, and when you coach like that you tend to either make it (i.e. Bobby Knight) or completely break it (Kevin O'Neill). Underwood also doesn't help himself by playing his son over much more talented underclassmen. I'd feel and play like s*** as an underclassman, too, if my coach constantly screamed at and demeaned me, benched me following minor mistakes, and provided preferential treatment to his son.

Underwood also crushed Smith's confidence, and he's on his way to accomplishing the same thing with Ayo. I think both Smith and Ayo are talented players and will eventually find success at the collegiate level, but I don't think Ayo will be successful with Underwood as his coach.
