Hard to believe, but I'd never had HIghland Park 12 before. It was on sale at a local shop and I picked up a bottle. It's damn good. Has more smoke than I thought it would. I mean, it's not a tire fire in your head like Laphroaig 10, but it's pretty well balanced.

Laphroig Cairdeas, Laguvalin 16 & Compass Box Menagerie are on my shelf. I want an Octomore.

Outside of the briny smoke, Octomore has notes of funky cheese, bbq brisket and honeysuckle. That’s crazy juice.

I currently have:

Johnnie Walker green label

Johnnie Walker Blue Label (Xmas present)

Glenmorangie portwood cask

Glenmorangie 10 year (for my easy pours or to make rob roys)

Ledaig 20 year (when I want a lot of smoke)

edit: forgot my favorite of the bunch the Glenlivet 18. Usually have the 15 but splurged this holiday.

I love scotch 😀

Ron Mehico - what's the JW Green like? I've had all the rest.

I'll never understand how their best-selling mass-marketed "flag-ship" JW Red can be so bad, and the rest of their stuff is solid to great. The jump between Red and Black is light years.

I just can't get into that leather handbag taste of scotch. I know it's the best, wish I liked it. I'll get it every now and then but I find myself going right back to Bourbon.

Even Irish whiskeys I don't like much these days.

Like you said the jump from red to black is by far the most noticeable. The green is slightly smoother than the black. The Gold is ever so slightly smoother than the Green, the Blue barely smoother than the Gold IMO. Personally I think the green is the best bang for the buck as it has a great smoothness without the cost. Plus for whatever reason it blows peoples minds when they see I have it as I guess most people haven’t heard of it?

The Glenlivets of comparable age are all better imo, but I’ve always been more of a single malt fan over blended.

I gave my wife a taste of Laphroaig (she's not a Scotch drinker, in fact I don't think she had ever HAD Scotch) and it GAVE HER A NOSEBLEED. lololol

They have some Laphroaig 25 at my local, it’s several hundred dollars. Would they be more or less smoky/peaty as the 10? Whiskey isn’t my forte.

Unless it's the Laphroaig "Cask Strength" (which I'm not sure is even available anymore) the 25 year old is probably more level, smoothed out.

That 10 YO will put some hair on your chest (or rather, burn it OFF) LOL

Lineski, I get it. I do.

I got accustomed to Scotch when I was living in Europe in the 80's, and bourbon (other than Jim Beam White aka brown vodka) was non-existant. If you ordered bourbon, you'd most likely get Jack Daniels.

I’ve had the 10 a few times. A buddy of mine and I punish ourselves with it anytime we are watching a UK game together and we lose. That stuff is like drinking water sifted through a bale of peat then smoked for 12 hours. Whoo boy.

Pierce Brosnan played Sam Carmichael in Momma Mia! & used the Carmichael tartan on the bagpipes. That's one of my gr-grandfather's surname & we have that Scotch tartan in our home. Yes, he was born in Scotland.
