Any chance Danny Clark commits to UK while on his visit?

I'd sure like to have him. He has a nice, smooth throwing motion and is also surprisingly mobile for his size. And speaking of size, at 6-3 and 230 pounds, he has the kind of size to play in the SEC on a weekly basis and not get completely murdered out there. I think this kid would be a very solid QB for us going forward.

Receivers look good too.

He has to see that depth chart at QB in front of him and eons of early playing time. It is 100% possible that he is the starter if he can pick up the offense/speed of college...especially if he is an early enrollee.

If UK is going to ever be a top 20 team...we have to pick it up at QB. Outside of Hartline's Sr year, which is now 6 years in the window, we've not had even mediocre QB play and it's main reason why we've been in this downturn of UK football.

That kid looks awesome. Big arm, lefty with quick release. Looks like Roethlesberger.

However, to OP's question; It's probably tough to get a guy to commit after the HFBC just blasted the entire fan base and culture of the program...not too smart, but not unexpected.

Not entirely unfounded, either. But I agree, probably doesn't help get an immediate commitment.

No one is ever going to accuse Stoops of being too smart. The guy can recruit and was obviously a good defensive coordinator but he hasn't proven he can be a head coach up to this point. The kids deserve fan support, unconditionally, the coach has to earn it and Stoops has used most, if not all, of his mulligans.

I find the Clark development fascinating. Kentucky badly needs a legitimate quarterback in our 2017 class. Shannon Dawson is a shotgun coach, known as an air raid disciple. Mac Jones was recruited by Dawson. Eddie Gran is another shotgun coach who believes in a balanced offense and a vertical passing game. Jones decommitted from Stoops/Gran and committed to Saban/Kiffin. Which means Jones will redshirt in a run-heavy offense and then sit for 2 more years behind Jalen Hurts. Then Jones will compete with Tua Tagovailoa. Meanwhile Danny Clark decommitted from Ohio State because of Tate Martell's commitment. The musical chairs make me dizzy. Now, Clark might commit to Stoops/Gran, where Gunnar Hoak and Drew Barker (with a bad back) would be his main competition at least until Jarren Williams arrives in 2018. Aside from the fact that Clark visited Kentucky right after decommitting from Ohio State, the rationale for expecting Clark to commit to Kentucky is that Ohio State and Kentucky were the 1st 2 P5 schools to offer him. If he thinks Gran will be at Kentucky for a while, it's a good opportunity. I don't know what Clark will decide, but it would be fun to see what Darrin Hinshaw could do with him. But I wonder if Clark is ready to pull the trigger again. This hasn't been a very good year so far for Coach Marrow, but Clark could turn that around fast.

Based on his 4-year losing record at a school with a lifetime losing record, who is paying him a $multi-million salary?

I wish I was that smart.
Is he that smart or is MB that dumb? Why would you give an unproven coach a contract that virtually precludes you from replacing him if he doesn't live up to expectations? He may be a savvy businessman but that doesn't make him a smart head coach. Believe me when I say I hope he proves me wrong, it would make me feel better about my continual investment in season tickets.

I was at the state championship game that he beat Toledo central Catholic (2 former UK commits...Mike Warren and James Hudson..who is a beast)....Clark made play after play to beat back an outstanding central Catholic team....would love for him to commit to UK..

Do you think you might have that a little backwards? Maybe Stoops blasted the fan base after he tried to get a commitment and failed out of a kid who has apprehensions because of the negativity surrounding things right now.

Clark's decommit wasn't as voluntary as it might seem. He committed 3 years ago and apparently isnt at the level Urban expected.

Kid will be forever heartbroken according to some.

Still a very good prospect for us.

Charlie Strong's buyout is $10 million. Stoops' is $12 million.

You tell me...

I wasn't under the impression it seemed voluntary at all. He didn't have an OSU offer, he doesn't have many other either. He committed young and full of potential and hasn't played to that level. This is a lot like the center out of Florida (Luke heirs, IIRC) who was committed to us, didn't progress, and when it came time to get official offers not just verbal offers, his mailbox was empty.

Danny Clark's most likely been on the market since last year, just couldn't admit it to himself until now. Vinny Zollo stayed committed to UK a lot longer than his contemporaries, IIRC

Sometimes rejection spurs you to go out and work harder, prove everyone wrong. Sometimes you just cry into your beer the rest of your life. If we take a commit from him, hopefully he'd part of the first group and busts his *** to make Urban sorry.

????????????

He did have an offer, that is how/why he committed.

"Maybe on Ohio State's end. Offering freshmen isn't normal and rarely is it right. Clark was big and strong and dedicated. He was an Ohio kid with lots of interest. He said he'd pledge the minute the offer came."

"Ohio State offered in December of 2013."

A verbal offer he had, yes. But Jon is referring to the written offers that can't go out till after August 1. Did he get one of those from OSU? If not, he didn't have an executable offer to sign.
