He is a 2026 QB from TX who has been released from his Iowa State LOI. I just watched his film and he's a good size (6'3'' 198 lbs) and seems to have all the physical tools Allar did, but actually appears to do a couple things better.

First, he throws an absolutely beautiful deep ball. His placement is perfect, everything from standing in the pocket to hit a guy on a dime 40 yards down the field, to escaping pressure and throwing a perfect 35 yard ball on the sideline where only his receiver could get it, to fitting the ball between two defenders, right in his receiver's hands. Secondly, he seems a little quicker and more nimble on his feet.

His recruiting ranking is lower, but honestly, watching that film, I don't understand why. It is just high school ball, but the things he does I WISH we had at QB for the first half of this year.

I think PSU has a really good chance of getting him.

Yup! I’m not star gazing. If he wants to bring in the top 5-10 guys from his ISU class that he feels are gamers, that’s good enough for me. I trust that he will coach them up and develop talent like he has always done.

I just hope there’s enough of a focus on looking at the portal for the guys who can step in and contribute right away. We will need it.

nice get even though QB was not necessarily the main need for additional recruits.

This really shows the benefit of hiring a current head coach from another team. In addition to being about to “hit the ground running” in terms of doing his duties and assembling a staff, being able to nab recruits and potentially portal guys from the old team is big for our situation.

Note also where ISU got them. Texas, Nebraska and Illinois. This spread tells me that the GM is looking far and wide for ballplayers to fit their culture.
Have we had any feedback from current players who have met with Campbell?

I do not think this is realistic. There is a higher chance of them circling back next year if Blacksburg and WV do not work out.

Not that I am aware of from glancing at the different boards and X. He just finished week 1 and is still hiring his staff, so I would imagine he has not talked to many yet. It seems like the tip off for any of this is social media follows. It seems like most of the core of the returning OL has traded follows with PSU coaches like the new OL coach. I like that Campbell has a real front office that is handling NIL and compensation to construct this team. Franklin micromanaged it here in the past (reportedly) and compensation was creating problems in the locker room.

You got that right. Best chicken around as well. Lines way out the door on Saturday’s. Grill master came from down the road at Giddings Market. About 25 miles due east of my farm, but I hate standing in line for anything, especially when there is another BBQ place right around the corner anywhere in central Texas

Never tried the chicken, I'll have to remember it for next time. I tend to stick to the classic trio of brisket, sausage and ribs at the more traditional spots like Snow's.

I just posted in the recruiting thread about the three Michigan recruits who are playing in the DC private league. One is a top 10 player, Carter Meadows. He visited Penn State so he’s definitely worth calling again and then there’s three or four kids from St. John’s school who are either committed to Michigan or right now uncommitted that I bet if Terry and the troops made a visit they would at least get some interest.

Interesting parallel -- the Barbecue (pork in this case)capital of North Carolina is the town of Lexington. Mark Maye was a high profile high school athlete there, went on to play TE at UNC and a stint in the pros. His sons were also good athletes, including Luke Maye for UNC Basketball and Drake Maye QB for UNC and now the Patriots.

So good QBs can have a connection to barbecue towns named Lexington.

I wouldn't call Lexington TX a BBQ capital town, it's too small for that. But Snow's is legendary. I'd argue Austin is the BBQ capital of TX but a lot of great places have opened in recent years to challenge that. Austin proper has 3-4 amazing spots, and if you expand it to "central TX" to add some of the surrounding epic places that are within about an hour of Austin the area is hard to beat for world class BBQ.

Lockhart is close to Austin and has really good BBQ.

+100000000000000000000! You’ve got people sitting in lawn chairs for Franklin’s when I can get 98% the quality at 4 or 5 joints within 3 miles of it without a wait.

I do almost cry remembering when we’d order Mickelthwaites for work lunch every couple of weeks or so about 10 years ago. Could make the decision by 10 and have the food at noon. Now it’s like you’ve got to order weeks ahead.

My old reliable is Black’s up in North Campus (Guad and 29th or so). Consistently good and only locals for the most part since it’s tucked away

My opinion, but Lockhart (30 miles SE of Austin), and and Taylor (30 miles NE of Austin), are the real origination of Texas BBQ. Certainly there is a BBQ family tree, but those towns were in the thick of it when I moved to Central Texas in 1984 and still are.
