Back to the cheese man, I watched his tape. His throwing motion looks short, but he throws deep balls on a rope to his receivers. Also flashes some good instincts on when not to throw and when to step up in the pocket. Really enjoyed watching him truck a linebacker.

For what it's worth, and I know Evans played in a small(er) HS, but he threw for 300 and ran for 200 in a Texas state playoff win. He was a 4-year starter, throwing for 3k yards in each of his Soph-SR years.

And he's listed at 6'2 200lbs. Decent size.

Sounds like a gamer.

Kase mit schinken brotchen bitte!
LOL: I'm not big on cheese and ham sandwiches. Well, I should say deli ham. I do eat an occasional grilled ham and cheese just to appease my wife. Also, can't go Aspic aka meat jelly. Had a German friend in Amberg Germany in "66"-"67" who loved the stuff. Though I do love me some Kasndle/Kanudle or riced potato balls in chicken broth ummmmmm good.

My absolute favorite German 'anything' is bratkartoffeln. Schnitzelbank in Heidelberg has my favorite ever.

My opinion, but Lockhart (30 miles SE of Austin), and and Taylor (30 miles NE of Austin), are the real origination of Texas BBQ. Certainly there is a BBQ family tree, but those towns were in the thick of it when I moved to Central Texas in 1984 and still are.
How many are in Lockhart? There is Kreitz (sp?), Terry Blacks and at least one other really good one. One of them if not more don't serve BBQ sauce because the meat is so good it is unnecessary.

I am sure this will come up more as we pick up ISU commits but he is an 87 composite and like the #60 QB overall. After the Allar fiasco and Franklin fiasco at developing QBs I don't know what to think of QB ratings but the so called experts see limitations in his game.

Lockhart is close to Austin and has really good BBQ.
The old heads hate me for it but I think Lockhart is really overrated now that Austin has had so many great places open up. Barb's BQ in Lockhart is elite though, it's relatively new. Most people rank Lockhart on the backs of the old joints... Smitty's, Black's (not Terry Black's) and Kruetz. None of those would be in my top personal 10 for bbq in the region. Barbs would be though, it's fantastic.

Off the top of my head and in my personal ranking order: Barb's BQ, Terry Black's, Kruez, Black's/Smitty's (have them about equal but for sausage Smitty's is better), Chisholm Trail. Barb's is the newest and by far the best, and one of the best in the whole state IMO. They have the 2nd best brisket I've ever had (Franklin in Austin being #1) and their lamb chopis was also awesome.

I'm not a big fan of the OG places in Lockhart, the new school has passed them up. But Louie's in Taylor is still elite. Best beef rib I've ever had, I've even brought them to State College for a tailgate before. I also think Louie Mueller is near the top of that family tree with many current pitmasters tracing their roots to him, including Aaron Franklin.

I trust a good coaching staff over recruiting experts any day.

Franklin. People like to hate on it to be contrarian and because of the line. The line is an experience if you treat it right, like a tailgate. Bring chairs and a cooler full of beer and some friends and it's a great time. It's a special occasion sort of thing, I don't go often because of the wait times but their brisket is consistently amazing. The pro tip is if you order at least 5# you can place an advance order for pickup, and take it to go with no wait. The quality isn't quite the same when you get it to go, but it's still very good and still 100x better than BBQ you'll find in BBQ desert regions like PA. Franklin is a tough place to take visitors to because of the wait times though, it would require sacrificing half a day. The best times to go as a visitor are weekdays with bad weather (cold or rain). That keeps the line down. Or you can just show up early afternoon after the line dies down and order whatever happens to be unsold, sometimes you get lucky and they still might have some brisket left with no wait at all.

My 3 favorite briskets ever are Franklin, Barb's BQ in Lockhart and Truth BBQ in Brenham. All are exceptional.

Lockhart was the best. Only thing I miss about living in Austin is the BBQ. And I miss it big time.

Bellefonte used to have a really good German restaurant - not sure if it is still there.

I don't understand how a state whose largest culture is German can have so few German restaurants. We used to have an authentic German restaurant on the edge of Reading that made the best schnitzel with an apricot sauce. Perfection!

This thread is like when grandma enters the conversation and just starts talking about something else.
Hah! One of the funniest radio bits ever was from the Jim Rome show. I wasn’t a big fan, but I happened to be listening one day during a commute. A caller - purportedly “Joan from Visalia” - calls in and proceeds to go Grandma on a tangent for about 20 minutes. Rome took her (him) seriously for about a minute but then figured it out. He proceeded to play along and it was pure gold.

If you visit I'll take you on a BBQ tour so good and extensive that you won't fit through the door on the plane to fly back to PA.
A few Youtubes of Chet, with the Texas Daytripper TV series. First is a Central Texas BBQ tour. Does Snows in Lexington. Also Lockhart, plus a dozen others in the area. My wife and I did a 5 BBQ tour with Chet about 10 years ago. We started in Snows. A crazy 12 hour bus tour

Hit it
https://thedaytripper.com/episodes/texas-bbq-road-trip/

Enjoy. I'll buy as well if you are coming to town

Just imagine for a second that young Kase is reading this thread expecting to see us Penn State fans celebrating his commitment and dissecting his tape. Instead, he goes down the rabbit hole of Austin BBQ and *checks notes* German Food. Welcome to Penn State, kid! 🤣

Rome’s show was horrendous. I listened to it one day when he had Franco on. I can’t remember the question but Franco gave a very thoughtful and detailed response to which Rome responded, “Solid!”. Just vapid nonsense.
