I wasn’t able to watch. Just saw some of the results. Did one of the Raneys get hurt? Did Mocco look good? Any huge surprises?

Jordyn Raney injured his ankle early in the Bassett match. Mocco wasnt able to generate anything against Merrill, chose bottom in the 2nd and couldnt get out. Nothing overly surprising... Nick Singer looked really good, Dekraker beat Wolbert, Mills beat Kenny in a close one.

I would also add that they mentioned Merrill had a 30lb weight advantage. The loss doesnt concern me, looking down the road after Mocco's presumed greyshirt and redshirt I would imagine he will catch up size wise and still have the advantage on the feet that he has shown in the past.

Merrill did less. Pretty much stood in center and kept Mocco at arms length pushing him away.

Bassett match anticlimactic, smattering of boo’s for him, especially with the way he won, but not as brutal as I expected. Crowd treated Melvin pretty good, especially considering he was wrestling an Iowa boy. Max kept it close until 3rd period, but is # 49 and only sixteen, so what do you expect. I think he has a lot of potential, but needs development. Melvin will be a title contender as true freshman, like Spencer and Duke. Merrill is still just too much man for Mocco, especially on top, and Mocco still seems to have gas tank problems. We seen this happen to Ben last season with the size horse power difference also. Kenney with another 1 point lose. His lack of length hurt him a few times when trying to finish single legs. Other kid and his brother are crazy athletic. We need to land kenney and Bachman for sure.

James will have a better college career than Melvin.

Also, crowd looked pretty small. Any idea on attendance numbers.

Looked small, but last few years has been held in small college gyms, and was in Bassett’s home town last year. Also thought ticket prices were high.

Just published a WNO wrap-up from this past weekend - incl. notes on Mocco/Dhabolt/Kenny, plus several recruiting updates for the women's program.

Let me know what you guys think:

Iowa Wrestling notes and nuggets: Who's Number One edition - On3

Was my first time ever attending, much less covering the event.

Really cool setup by Flo and the IC Sports Commission folks at Xtream Arena - very much like how they staged the Lee/Ono card last February (and women's NCWWC finals a month later).
