Any cyclists out there?

Don't think you'll get much interest or discussion in a bicycle thread buddy.

Really not concerned about that, just venting. If grown men want to dress in superhero tights and ride their $2k bikes, I have no problem with that. Just don't do it in the evening when I'm trying to drive home.

Some people commute to work on their bicycles. If more did so you wouldn't have so much traffic to deal with and people would be a lot healthier.
But seriously, did a mean ole cyclist cause you to get home 30 seconds later than you would have done otherwise???

More cyclists = worse traffic.

The transportation infrastructure of the American exurb doesn't lend itself to cycling commutes.

Thanks for your input Lance. I've seen more fat cyclists in their stretch suits than healthy ones.

I'm convinced that in 10 years there will be a thread here titled, "Any Walkers out There?" In which someone goes on a rant that someone in Walmart was going through the aisles while actually standing upright and hindering the mobility scooter lanes. It took 2 minutes more to get their diabetes supplies. The show-off was all standing upright, strutting around in things called pants and shoes. He needs to put his gown on and get on a hover-round like a real man.

But its two whole minutes, you can do a lot in two minutes. Rick Pinito can do 8 ****** in that amount of time.

OP thinks just because she is killing the environment that she is better than cyclists?

Not all cyclists, just most. What color of spandex do you wear? Bullet helmet and wrap around Oakley's?

Hey, if it makes you feel pretty then go for it.

We can all live in harmony...just take your pleasure cruise somewhere that doesn't back up traffic. Are you one of those inconsiderate people who only care about themselves?

What makes you have more right to the road than me? Is it your smoke stacks or the truck nuts?
Well, to be fair, he does probably take up the room 2 people do, so, maybe him being overweight allows that.

Mostly black bike shorts.

I, like most actual cyclist, follow the rules of the road. Sorry it slows you down.

All joking aside, I have no problem at all with cyclists in general. What I'm trying to understand is with all of the back roads and trails in this world why some people want to inconvenience others by riding on busy streets.

My theory is that some people just like to be seen,.

I am with ya Gene...have a few that love to ride on Westport Rd (non bike lane portion) in Louisville at about 5:15....they aren't riding home from work - they are doing it to cause problems and show their "importance".

Fine with the bike lane riders though, do you.

Not cyclist, but I do enjoy eating out on the patio in front of the restaurant walkway on a busy street. You never know, the Wellingtons or the Berkinshires may happen to walk by and see me eating on a $25 steak. To me, that means a lot.

Many of us ride on busy streets because thoroughfares are shared resources accessible to all. Those of us who consider ourselves responsible cyclists, obey the stated rules of the road. Likewise, if you keep your eyes on the road while maintaining control of your vehicle, then all stakeholders can co-exist peacefully.

As for your second statement, visibility is absolutely crucial for cyclists. Hence a great reason we see bright colors on many cycling jerseys. As previously stated in other threads, I own one jersey, obtained via a charity ride, and never wear it.

I don't have too much issue with cyclists driving home.

I do wonder the mindset behind cyclists and where and when they choose to ride. I've seen the way people drive......talking/texting on phones, reading books, doing make-up, eating......or just impatient or bad driving. I'm not a cyclist, but I have to wonder why you would choose the busiest parts of the day......some of the busiest 2 lane roads......with little to no shoulders?

There's a reason why we hear "Cyclist found in ditch, presumed dead" on the evening news about 10x during an average Summer.

I have to ride through downtown to make it to the trail, which admittedly isn't ideal, but as long as I stay in bike lanes and follow traffic laws I don't see a big issue.

Would like a nice cycling thread though. What about my dood Peter Sagan's performance at Worlds? Dude is a FREAK. Just amazing. He was pumping a ridiculous gear up 18% cobbles. LOL. 99% of us would just fall over if we tried that. This dude is doing 20MPH and no telling what kind of wattage.

Really wish I would have went to Richmond.

Here, close to home, I ride either bike lanes or sidewalks. Sidewalk riding in Austin is permissible everywhere except the 6th street area downtown. 75% of my daily commute is conducted on streets with dedicated bike lanes.

When visiting back home and cycling from one community to another, for example Knoxville to Harrogate, I always recon the route before riding. Adequate prep is critical.

Some folks, like me, choose commuting by bike for both health and monetary reasons.

Since the League of American Bicyclists considers KY 49th out of 50 for cycle friendliness, so much repeated hostility targeting cyclists, particular on this forum, is indeed understandable.

I also care about mother nature. Does that count?

I applaud you but I'm sure that all of the happy hour biking club aren't riding bikes because they're protecting the environment. Once again, no doubt in my mind that they have the need to be seen which probably stems from childhood neglect.

I recycle and use organic fertilizer BTW.

I bike for selfish reasons. Health and I enjoy the hell out of it. Being out in the country on a nice warm day, rolling through the horse farms. Awesome stuff.
