Any insider reports on Young’s potential?

What’s the word on the street with regard to Young’s progress? While I realize he’s redshirting this year, do we expect him to step in and contribute next year?

Playing two big guys is passé , of course, but wouldn’t have been the worst thing last night...

No Inside info here, but I spent a few minutes chatting with him at that STH practice event and he seems like a solid, thoughtful guy who is excited to be wearing purple. Also, he is kinda tall.

tbh, I didn't know who he was and was a bit embarrassed I couldn't name him, but I appreciated his conversation and general demeanor. Hopefully he's healthy and solid off the bench next year behind Benson - who I think is looking pretty good this year.

I think Young is going through the same learning process with Brian James that Derek Pardon was going through until NU was forced to play him three years ago this January, when Alex Olah was injured. He will be a serviceable big man in time.

There's a ringing endorsement.
By serviceable I mean someone who can give you twenty good minutes a game and score 8 to 10 points and get his share of rebounds every game. Next year remember with Jones they will have three big men who could give you minutes although I would not be surprised if Jones redshirts. I think the idea is redshirt the young big men and toughen them up for tough grind in the Big Ten. Gene Keady had a great coaching career while red shirting practically every big man he ever recruited.

Do you remember that Polish kid at Purdue who lifted weights until he looked like the Hulk and then dominated the Big Ten for a year? Did nothing his first few years.

Early 80's.

Imagine how good Pardon would have been NEXT season if the original plan stayed in place; glad we have the luxury of redshirting bigs now, who generally take more time to fevelop than, say guards. Another positive sign of the CC era, imo.

WIS did a lot of the same with their centers. RS and then they developed pretty well
